Thank You Douglas County Voters!
The sun rose a little brighter for our teachers and staff this morning. THANK YOU Douglas County voters for saying yes to ballot initiative 5A! This means our teachers and staff will receive salary increases that will make their pay more competitive with surrounding school districts. In addition, DCSD will be able to enhance security staffing in our schools.
The passage of 5A is a HUGE celebration for our district, our staff, and our students! The support that we have seen from our community has been amazing, especially considering the tax environment we were contending with. One thing is clear - our community is behind our schools and our staff and we are incredibly grateful. Thank you to everyone who helped spread the word about our funding challenges and need for this Mill Levy Override.
Please watch this short video message from me and Board Vice President Christy Williams about the election results.
Unfortunately, 5B fell short of passing this time. We will continue to communicate with our community about the need for 5B (and our gratitude for 5A). In the meantime, we will continue to address emergency capital needs as best we can with our very limited available resources. We will revisit boundary conversations as needed to address our overcrowded schools and we may recommend that the board put 5B on the ballot for a future election.
The efforts around 5A and 5B unified our entire district and I truly believe that, together, we set an important example for our students regarding perseverance and setting aside differences to fight for them. I hope that, as a community, we can continue to be that shining example, not only for our students but for our state and our country. There is nothing we cannot accomplish when we work together!!!
Congratulations to Director Susan Meek on her reelection and welcome to directors-elect Brad Geiger and Valerie Thompson to the Board of Education. I am confident that all seven of our directors will continue to work together for the betterment of our district and our kids. I also want to extend a sincere thank you to Directors Ray and Page for their service to our district - they will both be missed.
Finally, I want to reiterate my commitment to this amazing district, our schools, our students, our employees, and our families. We are forever PROUD TO BE DCSD! It is a true privilege to serve as your superintendent. Taking care of YOUR children and the amazing professionals who serve our kids and our district will always be my priority.
Thank you again for supporting our students, teachers, and staff!
