Family Needs Survey
Please fill this out with your child.
Hello Lake Families,
“Showing up” is a valuable life habit. It represents more than attendance; it is a positive attitude, being present and engaged. According to the research, attending school every day possible:
· Helps students get back on track and recover lost momentum
· Promotes student learning
· Helps students feel better about school and themselves
· Improves mental health through socialization, developing friendships, building empathy and forming lasting relationships with peers
· Allows for a personalized learning experience that keep students from falling behind
Thank you for partnering with us to ensure your child’s trajectory with good attendance!
3rd-5th Grade Families:
A letter was sent to you about upcoming state testing. Please remember the results from this test aren’t meant to tell the whole story. Your child’s scores are one of several ways for you and your child’s teacher to see how your student is progressing in school. Test scores, along with student report cards and teacher’s observations of your child’s performance in the classroom, are used together to form a complete picture.
Where can I learn more?
I also encourage you to take a look at a practice test for your child’s grade level. The practice tests are posted on the California Department of Education’s Smarter Balanced Practice Tests Web page at http://www.cde.ca.gov/ta/tg/sa/practicetest.asp. To find out more details about the Smarter Balanced test, visit http://www.testscoreguide.org/ca.
If you have more questions, please come to our Coffee with the Principal on 8:00 a.m. on Friday, March 17 at Rose Hall. We will go over more details on that day.
In partnership with you,
Dr. Davina Stringer

LaLaLa Lake - A Musical Moment with Mrs. Corso
3rd Grade Families: Students are working hard on their recorder songs. They will now be tested periodically in music and are working on earning stickers for each song they pass. Students can now record themselves playing from home to pass songs through Mrs. Corso’s Google Classroom. The class with the most stickers wins a party from Mrs. Corso. Please encourage your child to practice their recorder using Mrs. Corso’s Google classroom.
Please email Mrs. Corso with any questions. jennifercorso@vistausd.org.
5th Grade Families: Students are working on their performance pieces for our concerts on April 28th (AM- Time TBD) . Please encourage your child to practice their ukulele songs on Mrs. Corso’s 5th Grade Google Classroom. It’s not too late to check out a ukulele if you would like your child to have one at home to practice with.

VUSD Family Bike Edu Night Updates
We are just a few weeks away from our first Family Bike Education Night on March 22nd at VIC! At these nights we are asking our students (and families) to take a pledge by signing our Pledge Banner. Once they sign the poster, they’ll be given a pledge card to keep! We will also be handing out stickers with the VUSD Bike Education logo. There have been donations from local bike companies as well as a LARGE donation from E11even, a brand new mountain bike which we will be raffling off after the events. Please encourage your families to attend. The second night will be on April 5th at Roosevelt Middle School.
Our lost and found is full again!
Stop us if you've heard this before, but our Lost and Found is full again! Please come by and take a look for your child's belongings. A parent stopped by at the gate on Friday and went to the Lost and Found, and came back in a few minutes with two jackets and a hat - this could be you! We will be donating everything left at the Lost and Found before Spring break.

Parking Challenges at Lake Park
Please ensure you are not parking in the fire lane and spaces that are NOT parking spots, specifically at Lake Park. It makes it very difficult for the pull through cars and for the people who have legally parked to safely walk to the sidewalk.
Keeping Lake Safe
If you have questions, comments, concerns or an interest in joining the conversation about campus safety, please reach out to our Lake Safety Committee at KeepLakeSafe@gmail.com.
Curious about the Aeries Parent Portal?
We made a short video to explain what the Aeries Parent Portal can do, and we encourage all of you to check it out. It provides attendance information, grades and emergency contact information as well. Please watch it and learn!
Visitors and Volunteers on Campus
We are excited to announce we have a new Visitors/Volunteers scanning system called Raptor. Raptor will check both Megan Law’s and other Federal Agency for every person that enters campus, each time they scan in.
Please be sure to bring your driver’s license to the office with you to scan into the Raptor system.
If you volunteer more than 20 hours a week and were given a badge, unfortunately the old badges will not work with the new system. Please be sure to bring your I.D. when you come to the office to scan in and we can make a new badge for you.
Late Drop Off/Early Release Information
If your student is coming to school late from an appointment or leaving early from school, please provide a doctor's note to excuse the tardy/early release. Please have a government ID when picking your student up early. Students can only be released to biological parent or legal guardian, per CA Ed code. If parents need to make other arrangements, please call the office and notify the office staff the name of the person picking your student up and the individual needs to be listed on the Parent Portal.
Lake Logistics
- CAR RIDER LINE: Families picking up and dropping off, PLEASE help our line move efficiently by NOT getting out of your vehicles while still in the car line. Please train your children to buckle or train them to sit safely while you find a safe place to pull over and make the needed adjustments for the ride home. THANK YOU!
- At dismissal, please utilize both lanes for pickup and be prepared with your child's name, grade and teacher.
Lake Student and Parent Handbook
The purpose of our Student and Parent Handbook is to assist our students and families with important information regarding school policies, procedures, and agreements we have set us up for us to have an enjoyable, successful, and safe school year.
Click on the link above to review the handbook. It is expected that each family reads through our Family Handbook. We appreciate your support and involvement as we work in partnership to provide a nurturing, inspiring, and rigorous educational program for each of our Dolphins.
School Meals
This year, breakfast and lunch we will be free and offered for all Lake students. Students will be able to have breakfast before school starting at 7:40. Breakfast will be served in the covered patio and students will stay there while eating. Supervision will be provided as breakfast is a student-only time and parents will not be allowed in the breakfast area. Lunch will be provided for all students during the school day.
Here's the menu from our WaveCrest Cafe!
A change for the 22-23 school year is there is no more Second Chance Breakfast available during recess. If your child wants breakfast it is available starting at 7:40.
COVID-19 Protocols
Masking in schools is optional for students, staff, and families. According to the very latest CDPH guidance for schools, indoor masking in K-12 school settings continues to be a strong recommendation, but not required. If you or your child is displaying symptoms or tests positive, please stay home and notify Lake immediately.
Please keep Lake safe. Any positive test results should be reported to Lake. And, if your student is experiencing any COVID-like symptoms, we ask that you keep them home. The most common COVID-19 symptoms include fever, cough, congestion, sore throat, vomiting, and diarrhea. Again, we ask that all positive COVID-19 results be reported to your school.
