Mountain View Weekly Update
January 29
Announcements & Updates
- All 8th grade students received a form to complete regarding the information that will appear on their diploma. Please note that parents must sign the form and return it to the Main office by February 9.
- After several rounds of intense competition, eighth grader John Patton won the annual Mountain View school competition of the National Geographic Bee on January 19, 2018. The school Bee, at which students answered questions on geography, was the first round in the 30th annual National Geographic Bee, a geography competition designed to inspire and reward students’ curiosity about the world. The school champions, including John, will take a qualifying test; up to 100 of the top scorers on that test in each state will then be eligible to compete in their state Bee on April 6, 2018.
- Congratulations to the Gold Cheer team, who capped off another successful year at last Saturday's Roxy Rumble. The team finished the season with two-second place and one-first place finish. Go lady lions!
Classroom Spotlight: 5th grade EEE
During marking period 2, 5th graders at Mountain View took up the challenge of the Conserve Wildlife Foundation’s “Species on the Edge Art and Essay Contest”. Working with the Conserve Wildlife Foundation of New Jersey and its excellent website and resources, each of our 5th graders “adopted” a NJ animal species for which to advocate. These species fell into three categories: special concern, threatened, or endangered.
After choosing a species to rally behind, each 5th grader carefully researched his or her individual species, and created colorful, aesthetically-pleasing posters depicting this animal.
Finally, students planned and composed essays which introduced potential readers to his or her species, its ecosystem and what we can all do to help. Each student was able to have a personal writing conference with a 5th grade teacher: Mrs. Berish, Mrs. Dodge, Ms. Frattina, Mrs. Goncalves, or Ms. McCaffrey. This was truly a team effort!
Results are due in late spring. See below for photos.
