Mrs. Reiber's Apple Newsletter

Important Reminders
- Each night, the white folder will come home with your child, along with their agenda. The agenda will have assignments and spelling words written in it. The folder will have the actual homework papers and any other important papers to take home or to return to school. Thank you in advance for your help and cooperation.
- Homework this week: Reading and spelling homework due on Friday. Science homework on Monday is to bring in a rock for science class (please have the rock to school by Wednesday at the latest; if you don't have a rock I have some extras at school your child can borrow).
- Later in the week, a study guide for the math test will come home. The math test is scheduled for Monday, December 19 and it is about telling time and place value (addition and subtraction of 3 digit numbers). There will be no homework the following week.
- Ms. Gallagher has collected musical recorder orders. If you still need to buy one, please send in the blue paper and $5. If your child already has one or is using an older sibling's old recorder, that is fine. She requests that you send it to school with your child for her to look it over in music class. Thanks.
- The next book order due date for online Scholastic Book orders is Monday, December 12. Books ordered by this point will arrive in time for Christmas. The code to use online is NDJXN.
- There will be a firefighter assembly this Friday in the morning for 3rd grade students.
- Our winter party is coming up on Thursday, December 22nd from 9:30-11:00 a.m. Please contact our head room parent, Mrs. Adams, for more information.
Thanks,
Mrs. Reiber

What we are learning in Room 12...
This is the area of the weekly newsletter where parents/guardians can be informed of what is planned for our week. If your child is ever going to be absent, please let me know in advance if possible, so I can send make-up work with them.
- Math - We will finish our math unit next week and will take the unit test before winter break begins. The unit is about milliliters, liters, grams, kilograms, rounding, place value, addition, subtraction, and telling time.
- Reading - We will finish our unit about theme and will compare the themes in Kevin Henkes' books. We will also start Reader's Theater about Christmas Around the World!
- Writing/Spelling - This week's spelling words are about diphthongs (the oi/oy sound is this week's diphthong focus). The spelling test is on Friday. For writing class, we are continuing our narrative writing unit.
- Science - We have started a new science unit about rocks! Last week, we made a chart with our pre-knowledge about rocks. We will first learn about the properties of rocks.
This is a slideshow of mineral pictures; it can help our class learn about the characteristics of rocks and ways to describe their properties.
