Fraser Library @ Bishop Kelly
February 2018
Second Semester
The second semester is off and running. Below are some of the new resources available in the library. Remember that the database page is your friend when starting those research projects and assignments. In addition, we have over 450 new books for reading and research.
New Website Pages
We are currently updating the library website. The Tech Tools and the Primary Sources pages are complete. The Reseach Guides are coming next. The Database Page has also been reconfigured and now offers resources by subject as well as by publisher. The library website is your portal to fantastic information.
How to find Printable News Articles
Keeping up with current events is an important part of the education at BK. Printing a news article directly from many websites can lead to a printing nightmare. Printing from a newpaper, magazine, or journal article from a news database is super easy. Once you find an article, there is usually a share, print, or save button. Using these will format the article so that only the text and the citation will be usable. This is exactly what you want. If you need to annotate the article, then using Noodletools will help you do that.
Schoology & The Library
Schoology is a Learning Management System that is being piloted during 2nd semester. The library resources are included in the pilot, and all students have been added to the Library Group. The links that appear in your Blackboard account are also now in Schoology. When logged in to your account, click the Groups dropdown, select Bishop Kelly Library, and then find the Resources button in the left pane. Passwords and links are all there.
Database Trial
We are currently offering a trial to a new set of databases from ABC-CLIO publishers. They can be found on the database page and you will need a password to be able to access these. Check with the librarian or your teacher to get it. Included are government, history, health, geography, religions, culture and more. You can save articles to your Google Drive like the Gale Databases. Try one and then let Mrs. Parker know what you think of it. The trial will be open for February and March.
Award Winning Books
The new year brings many "Best Books" lists and awards for 2017. If you are looking for a good book, check one of these lists for ideas. Many of these books can be found in the BK Library.
