Week 19 Up Coming Events @ Dodd

I Hope that everyone had a restful 3 day weekend. Students seemed on top of their work and they created some great writing samples this week. Some are still a work in progress, but nothing to worry about. Just a few reminders about when your child is absent. Please send a note with the date and reason for your child's absence. Report cards will be coming home soon. Keep an eye out for them and sign and return if your child has an highlighted due to failing grades. With our fast approaching STAAR testing, keep in mind that your children are working hard at school on skills that can be strengthened at home too. They can practice on ISTATIONS at home and read as much as time allows. This will also help with their writing skills too. Any of your help is greatly appreciated.

Reading and Writing

This week we have continued our study on poetry. Students worked on creating poems about WINTER, I have a Dream, and a Five Senses poem. They will continue to read poems and answer questions based on rhyme, comprehension, and imagery.

In writing, students wrote about A Time they learned something for the first time and about what they know about hurricanes . They could use notes to recall information on hurricanes and tell what damages they can do to communities.

Social Studies

This week students learned about "Grit and Preparation." Grit is trying your best and never giving up and preparation is setting up goals and doing things early that will help you in the future. They watched a video on Kid President and they wanted to watch more. They love this cutie pie! They worked together in small groups working to solve puzzles as an example of never giving up and having a goal in mind.

Spelling and CUPS

This week in spelling, students worked with abstract vowel aw and o. They will complete activities in their journal due tomorrow. Next week we will begin more homophones with our spelling words. Please see that your child is completing and turning in CUPS every week. The students who don't compete their CUPS weekly, are consistently failing their quizzes on Fridays, when they do not review their rules. You can check your child's planner to see if they are getting deductions weekly for incomplete homework.
