Lincoln Crossing Colt Connection

Mrs. Hladun's Tidings
Looking to 2020/21:
Many people are aware, but the opening of Leaman ES will take significant pressure off our our campus next year. As a result of the new school opening, we expect to go from an enrollment of over 700 students currently to around 450 next year. This is bittersweet for sure.
The reduction in students also means a reduction in staff. Although we don't know for sure yet how all of that will happen, we do know that 7 of our current teachers will be moving from LCES to other schools in our district. We will also see a reduction in our classified staff, but I don't know all of those details yet. Once all of this is finalized, we will communicate all the changes that we expect, as we typically do each spring.
One thing I can assure you of is that we will miss all the staff and students who are no longer on campus next year, but they will always be part of our Colt family!
Supporting a Healthy Community
The COVID-19 virus response is being managed by our District Office staff with support from the Placer County, State and National Centers for Disease Control. You can get updated information about our district response from the WPUSD website, and we invite you to contact the District Office if you have any questions. On campus, we are implementing:
- a significantly increased cleaning protocol that includes the use of stronger cleaning materials, and cleaning all high tough spaces (bathrooms, faucets, desks, chairs, door handles, counters, etc...) daily. Our custodians are working overtime daily to meet the demand.
- a protocol for evaluating students who come into the office with symptoms like a cough, runny nose, fever, etc...
- talking with students about the importance of hand washing
- we've added hand washing visuals to each restroom on campus for reference
Please watch for communication from our District Office and their social media feeds for the most up to date information.
The most helpful thing our families can do is keep their kiddos home if they aren't feeling well. Children should not attend school if they've had a fever, and they should only return to school when they are fever free for 24 hours without any medications. Please also encourage your children to wash their hands, use a tissue or their elbow when sneezing and to avoid touching their faces. There are tons of different types of germs as well as allergies running around campus this time of year - we all can do our part to support student and staff health!

Happy Families Session - Rethinking Boundaries
Join us on Thursday, 3/12, at 6 pm in the Tech Room (day care is provided) or on Friday, 3/13, at 8:30 am in the Tech Room (no day care is provided) for a conversation around Rethinking Boundaries: A New Way of Looking at Them. This conversation is facilitated by our school psychologist, Ms. Desi St. John; you can anticipate a thought provoking and engaging discussion!
Summary of the conversation:
Leslie Potter speaks with wisdom and clarity about what boundaries are, and how to create them for our kids and for ourselves. She shares relatable stories and examples of young children and teens. Leslie shows how we can support our kids and create safety, while also giving them the freedom and space they need.
