Principal’s Message
Kia ora whānau
Next week we look forward to celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori - Māori Language Week.
Te Wiki o te Reo Māori has been celebrated in New Zealand since 1975. It acknowledges and celebrates the Māori language as a unique cultural treasure for all New Zealanders.
Each year The Māori Language Commission sets a theme for the week, and a range of activities, promotions and events encouraging the use of te reo Māori take place around the country. This year, Te Wiki o te Reo Māori will run from 11 ki 18 Mahuru (11 to 18 September).
At school we actively promote the use of Te Reo Māori as part of who we are and throughout the school day. Some of you may have even noticed an increase in visibility of the language around the school in recent years.
The teachers continue to be up-skilled in this area, as it is the major focus of their professional learning development. Keep an eye on our very active school Facebook page, as there will be regular updates on all the fun things that are happening across the school during the week.
I hope you have a safe and relaxing weekend, and let’s hope we continue to have some more warmer weather.

A reminder that if you have a child or know of a child who is turning 5 soon, and they will be enrolling at Rātā Street, we encourage you to make contact with the school as soon as possible. This is so that school visits can be arranged to ensure a smooth transition to school.
Badminton
Congratulations to the Rātā 1 badminton team for winning their division at the local badminton competition. In total we had 10 children in 3 different teams represent the school.
