Message from the Principal
CES Families,
I hope that you had a wonderful weekend! With this being the final month of the school year, please read each week's newsletter for important information.
This week kicks off Right to Read Week and the Scholastic Book Fair! We have a Dress Up Day on Thursday (Dress that a cowgirl/cowboy. Flannel and denim are great! Please no weapons). Information about purchasing books from the Book Fair is included below.
This week is also Staff Appreciation Week! Please join me in thanking our incredible Chapman Staff for all that they do for our students and school community! The PTA has an awesome week planned to show our appreciation.
Let's make it a great week!

PBIS End of Year Summary
The Tiered Fidelity Inventory (our PBIS assessment) indicates that we are implementing Tier I with fidelity at 90%.This represents significant improvement in our implementation since our previous TFI administration on Oct. 14, 2021. Within the core features, we are at 94% in Implementation and 88% in Evaluation. However, we are at 75% in Teams, due to the absence of parent representation on our PBIS team. In our action plan, we have focused on several specific items for improvement. These include:
Adding a parent representative to the PBIS team
Sharing data with building staff monthly
Asking all staff to complete the Self Assessment Survey
We greatly value our Chapman families and in January of 2022, we administered a Family Climate Survey.
In reviewing our TFI data, our behavioral data and family perception survey data, we have developed the following goals for the 2022 - 2023 school year: Create more individualized and school-wide incentives for positive behavior To create individualized problem solving teams for students needing individualized behavior supports based on our data Creating a process for incorporating positive acknowledgement of staff in alignment to our process for recognizing students At our PBIS team meetings, we reviewed behavior data and discussed effective ways to address problems. A month-to-month comparison of our office discipline referral data is below. This data tells us that on average we see two behavior infractions at the office level daily. There are inconsistent spikes of more than two incidents per day. The data shows that one incident per day is consistent. We would like to see the one incident per day trend towards more zero office level incidents per day.
Rope, Wrangle and READ!
Each teacher has set a nightly reading goal for their class. Students are encouraged to read each night. As a school we have set the goal of reading for 30,000 minutes!
Monday - School-Wide Assembly to kick off the week
Tuesday - Writing Prompt & Reading Under the Stars
Wednesday - Rodeo Stations
Thursday - Spirit Day! Dress like you're from the Wild West! (School appropriate, no weapons)
Friday - Reading Under the Stars
Scholastic Book Fair & PTA Ice Cream Social (5/2-5/6)
Students will have the chance to visit the Fair during the week with their classes. We also will have evening hours on Wednesday 5/4 from 6:30-8 PM for families who are interested in shopping with their student(s). Also during those Wednesday evening hours PTA will host an Ice Cream Social for our shoppers so plan to come enjoy a sweet treat to kick off the last month of school!!
Visit the Book Fair homepage at https://www.scholastic.com/bf/chapmanelementaryschool4 for information on online ordering, and on setting up eWallets, an online account created for a child which allows him or her to shop without having to bring cash to school.
Proceeds from the sales of the Fair will go towards the purchase of books for the school and classroom libraries, as well as a fundraiser for the PTA general fund.
