English 9 = Google Classroom, not Edgenuity
9th Grade students are taking their English course with Ms. Alger through Google Classroom. That means that, while their other 3 courses are offered on Edgenuity, they need to log into Google Classroom for English. This gives them the opportunity to engage in our Fridley curriculum and work more closely with a Fridley English teacher.
To check progress in English 9, log into the parent portal on Campus or contact Ms. Alger Christina.Alger@Fridley.k12.mn.us directly. Your student’s mentor teacher can also help.
ACT TEST FOR 11TH GRADERS - APRIL 5TH
On Tuesday, April 5th, starting at 8 a.m Fridley High School juniors will take the ACT test. Scores are college reportable and the test is offered at no cost to the student. Students will take the ACT - No Writing test.
Students must complete the ACT pre-administration document before April 5. In this document, students will be asked to pick four colleges where ACT will send official scores. Please have a discussion with your scholar about where ACT scores will be sent. If you send an official ACT score report to a college after this date, it will cost $16/per college.
FOA students should come to the high school any time between 8:00 am and noon on Monday, March 28th, to fill out the pre-admin document. Students will not be allowed to test on April 5th if the pre-administration steps are not complete.
PRE-ACT FOR 10TH GRADERS - APRIL 5TH
On Tuesday, April 5th, starting at 8 a.m., Fridley High School sophomores will take the PreACT test. PreACT offers 10th graders an early experience with ACT test items, provides a predicted ACT test score, and offers a wealth of information to help students get the start they need to be college ready.
FOA students should plan to come to the high school any time between 8:00 am and noon on Monday, March 28th, to fill out the pre-admin document. Students will not be allowed to test on April 5th if the pre-administration steps are not complete.
IN-PERSON COLLEGE FAIR! - MARCH 11TH
Fridley High School will be hosting the MnACC College Fair from 9:00-10:30am on Friday, March 11th! There will be representatives from 56 different colleges visiting Fridley High School on that day. These representatives are from community, technical, and 4-year colleges and universities in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, South Dakota, and Iowa. This is an incredible opportunity for you to talk to college representatives and learn more about college campuses, admission requirements, course offerings, academic majors, student organizations, scholarships, financial aid, and much more!
All FOA students are able and encouraged to attend the college fair! Please let your mentor, Ms. Hanke, or Mr. Kiefer know if you plan to attend the college fair on March 11th. You will need to provide your own transportation to and from Fridley High School on that day.
Questions on the MnACC College Fair? Please contact Matt Kiefer at kiefer@fridley.k12.mn.us or 763-502-5790.
SENIOR CLASS MEETING ON MARCH 14TH
PARENT PORTAL IN EDGENUITY
Edgenuity offers a “Family Portal” for parents and guardians to be able to keep up to date on their student’s work in real time. You can check their grades and progress in each class and see how much time they are working each day. Please contact Chandra.Hanke@Fridley.k12.mn.us if you would like to set up an account.
Grading in the Fridley Online Academy
Algebra 2, World History, Student Success, and support classes for IEP students are offered via Google Classroom. These grades are reported directly in Campus.
All other classes are on Edgenuity.
Students need to complete at least 90% of the curriculum in their Edgenuity course to qualify for credit and a letter grade.
The letter grade is based on the Edgenuity Actual Grade:
A 90-100%
B+ 85-89%
B 80-84%
C+ 75-79%
C 70-74%
D+ 60-69%
D 50-59%
F 0-49%
ATTENDANCE!
We encourage students to dedicate 4 hours every day to their Online Academy Work.
The minimum attendance requirement is 2 hours a day. Attendance is reported in two periods: a.m. and p.m. If a student only works for an hour on a given day, they are marked present for one of the periods and absent for the other.
The only exception is Thursdays: if a student does not attend the Thursday meeting with their mentor, they are marked absent for the a.m. period.
If your student is ill, please call in to the attendance line (763-502-5609.) Their absence will be excused.
Thursday Google Meets
Course Platforms
Fridley Online Academy courses are offered via Google Classroom and Edgenuity. Students can access both of these platforms through their Clever Login.
There are 3 courses this semester on Google Classroom. These courses use Fridley curriculum and are taught by Fridley teachers. The courses are Algebra 2, World History, and Student Success, which is an organization and study skills course. All 9-11 graders took Student Success this quarter and all 12th graders are taking it this quarter.
The remainder of the courses are offered via Edgenuity, which is the platform we used last year. All students have between 1-4 classes on Edgenuity.
