Gorilla News- Winter Edition
January/February 2023
Happy Winter Families!
The long winter nights are beginning to shorten, and the elementary has settled into snow pants and gloves, navigating the ice and enjoying our winter sports. With the rush of the holidays over, it gives us time to reflect on new year goals. Our goals are simple. Each staff member is invested in your children's future at Davenport Elementary. They do so each day with intentionality and caring. Thank you for allowing us to be a part of an exciting future!
Warmly,
Sarita Hopkins
Davenport Elementary Principal

What's up in SEL?
Gorilla Families - We hope everyone is off to a great start this year. Your counseling team has started the new year off with the introduction to Purposeful People word of the month Cooperation. Below you will find a few examples of our conversations starters that we use: What does it mean to Cooperate with others? How can listening to other people's ideas and perspectives help us improve our Cooperation skills? What is 1 way we can practice Cooperation? How can listening help us Cooperate with others? We will also be discussing internet safety with NetSmartzkids. You might hear your students talking about personal information, Potty Mouth Pete or Meet Me Mack to name a few characters in the Routerβs Birthday Surprise video. You may have even been asked if you know what personal information is? Some students thought they would be able to trick their parents by quizzing them on keeping their personal information safe. As always we encourage students to their adults at home about the topics and skills they learn during SEL time. Thank you, Heather Jacoby Alison Hawley

Welcome Brandee Jerow!
"My name is Brandee Jerow and Iβm a new SPED para at Davenport Elementary. I moved to Davenport two years ago with my husband and our two kids so we could have space for our own farm and to be closer to family. In my spare time I love taking care of our farm, fishing, and crocheting. I am so thankful to be a part of such a wonderful community! "
Davenport Schools is so thankful to have Brandee join our team.
