Major Accomplishments
Henri Matisse was one of the most influential artist of the 20th century. His work was most recognizable by his expressive bright colors and Fauvism. His major works included Open Window and Lady with the Hat .
Life in Paris
In 1891 Matisse moved to Paris to study art. There, Lady With the Hat and Open Window were both exhibited (1904-1905) in the Salon d'Automne exhibition. Luxe calme volupte which was inspired and named after a poem by Charles Baudelaire was also exhibited. Later Matisse purchased a studio there and signed a contract with dealers of art, including Gertrude Stein.
