Panther Press Volume 20
Excellence,Everywhere,Everyday
Greetings Panther Nation
So much has happened in just the last month, it's hard to keep up! Let me try to give you a run-down of a few of the things that we had going on around campus –
Course Selection and Advanced Academic, Band, Choir TMEA performance, CTE Skills USA Competition, CTE National Letter of Intent Signing Day, TAFE State Competition, HOSA, theater, basketball, powerlifting, soccer, softball, baseball, track, Black History Program and a dance showcase.... WHEW!
Oh, and don't forget the 2000 classes that are taught across campus each week! Needless to say, the spring semester is fast and furious. I hope you all take the opportunity to attend one of the many extracurricular activities that happen each week. Our students love seeing their parents and teachers show up to support them. It strengthens the student/parent/teacher relationship and will pay dividends in the classroom...guaranteed.
This past week there were many shining examples of why Duncanville High School is a great place. Our Pantherettes are heading to State for the 26th time! Our boys basketball team will be playing in the Regional Quarterfinals on Tuesday, March 3, 2020 @ 6:30 pm at The Wilkerson Greines Activity Center. Our boys soccer team is currently ranked #9 in the nation and #3 in the state with a record of 17-0. Our girls soccer team has made the turn in district and has positioned themselves for a playoff push. We sent a large group of students to compete in the state TAFE competition last week.
As we sail toward the end of the 3rd nine week marking period, I want to encourage all of our students to stay focused and motivated as they work to the best of their abilities in finishing this marking period strong. We are now embarking on testing season with the first round of EOC testing scheduled for early April, so it’s important that students are attending school daily.
Have a great week and GO PANTHERS!

Kindness Counts: Being Present & Modeling Compassion
We live in a very fast paced world. Keeping up with the demands of life can sometimes cause us to get distracted. Being present with our children is vital to ensure that they grow up healthy and happy. For the fifth event in our Kindness Counts Series, we are pleased to welcome speakers from The Turn Around Agenda. Parents will learn practical ways in which they can be present for their children as well as ways that they can model compassion when disappointments arise. The session will be held Monday, March 9th from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Duncanville High School in the East Seminar Room. Spanish interpretation will be available. Junior Class Ring Cermony
On Wednesday, Feb. 12th, students in our Junior Class met with Balfour and were given a magazine of class ring options. This is a very exciting time for them as they begin to see their high school career inching closer to the finale year. We are so proud of the Class of 2021! Here are a few key things you may need to know.
- Balfour accepts cash, check (made to Balfour), and credit/debit card.
- An initial deposit of $100 is due when the order is placed.
- Students may place the order with Balfour in person on Wednesday, 2/19 or Thursday, 2/20 during all lunches.
- Students may order online at: dallasbalfour.com
- There are a number of payment options available, after the initial mandatory $100 deposit
The wonderful options that will allow your student to remember their high school years and commemorate the impending Senior year are something to be CELEBRATED!
We are excited to announce, for the first time ever, we will be holding a RING CEREMONY in May to do just that. This will be a family event where your student is recognized and applauded for not only making it to their Senior year, but also planning to be a successful leader of the class as we move forward with our eyes on May of 2021. We will communicate a date and time soon, but want you to know in order to have the ring present at the ceremony, orders must be purchased by March 13, 2020. Any student who completes the initial deposit before the Ring Ceremony in May is eligible to participate in the event. Please refer all questions to Mrs. Shaunna Kile, Junior Class Sponsor, at skile@duncanvilleisd.org.
