Principal's Message
May your weekend renew your energy as we gear up into full swing for a full week of school! This week we start with our extended planning days and regular schedule. Here are some friendly reminders.
All 2nd-5th grade teachers should be at their morning duty stations. Kinder and 1st reports to their classrooms at 7:00 a.m. Be prepared to pick up your students from their morning stations at by 7:18-7:20 a.m. sharp.
- Remember to line up your students and review breezeway/hallway procedures.
- As students are entering into your classroom, you should be greeting them, shaking their hands, etc. This will become our morning ritual.
Each teacher should upload their lesson plans by 8:00 a.m. every Monday.
- For this week only, 3rd-5th Reading lessons are skeletal due to not receiving the materials on time. Everyone should start with Unit 1, Bend 1, Lesson 1 & 2 for Monday and Tuesday.
- Ensure that all kids are engaged in learning at all periods and time of the day in your schedule.
- In Get Better Faster, by Bambrick-Santoyo, he suggest that effective lesson plans have 3 key components as the core foundation: 1.) Precise Learning Objectives that are data driven, curricular aligned, and can be accomplished in one lesson. 2.) Have a basic "I do" script. 3.) An effective exit ticket (brief mini-assessment ) aligned to your objective.
Schedules: These need to be posted on the outside of your door with detail and inside your room for students to refer to. All teachers must break down the ELAR, MATH, and Science periods including Mini-lesson, Read Alouds, Independent Learning, Collaborative/Partner Time, etc. If you need assistance with this reach out to your MCL or Instructional Specialist.
Objectives on the board: 100% of classes will post their daily objectives on the board. Use the powepoint I sent earlier for more information. If you need clarification, please reach out to your MCL or Instructional Specialist.
Collaborative Planning Sessions: Some of you have reached out to us to let us know of your collaborative planning sessions with district folks. Please make sure to let your MCL or Instructional Specialists know when these times occur so they can support you. FYI: Here is the list of our district support specialists:
- Gaby Limon- Humanities Department & can support with ELAR/SS needs. She will schedule to be on campus on Wed. & Thurs.
- Lindsey Eikenhorst or Diana Navarro: Math Department & can support on the days requested. Last year we had Tuesdays.
- Yared Marquez- Multilingual Department & can support all English Learner instructional needs. Support upon request.
- Donald Burken- Science Director & can support with all Science content needs.
- Michelle Jankowski- Dyslexia Teacher- will pull out for Dyslexia Support.
- Natasha Malik: Systems of Care Coach- can support with all social skill and behavorial needs.
Also, please be aware that Ms. Gardner will be conducting two trainings this week. At our faculty meeting we will go over MAP administration. On Thursday, she will review grading guidelines. Please come prepared with your computer and something to write with for both meetings.
Please enjoy the remainder of your Sunday!
With love, respect, and admiration,
Rachel Martinez
