Kriewald Road School of the Arts Student Publishes Book
She is small but mighty! Don’t let nine-year-old Holly Shea’s petite stature fool you, she is doing big things. The Kriewald Road School of the Arts student has just become a published author. Her first book, Camp Misty Woods, is available on Amazon.
Holly, who is unable to walk and run, was inspired to write a book after spending most of her time reading chapter books. Her initial goal was to write 10-thousand words, but writing came so naturally she ended up writing 35 thousand words.
The book tells the story of a young girl, and her life changed after attending a four-day camp. The young writer is just getting started. She says if this book is successful, she plans to write a book every year. Click here to purchase her book.
The Penguins are Coming!
Soon penguins will be seen popping up around the District. It’s part of a marketing campaign to raise awareness about the upcoming SWISD Penguin Project’s premiere performance, Annie Jr.
Southwest High School’s enrolled in construction created wooden-shaped penguins distributed to campuses and departments. Students and staff will decorate the penguins and display them to create a buzz ahead of the shows.
The penguins will also be used to line the red carpet as people arrive to see the performance.
SWISD elementary students will have an opportunity to join in on the marketing efforts. Coloring pages with penguin images are being distributed to all elementary campuses, and students are asked to put their creative hats on and color the pages. Completed coloring pages will decorate the halls leading to the SWHS auditorium.
The Southwest ISD Penguin Project provides an opportunity for children with special needs to participate in a unique theatrical experience and an outlet for revealing their creativity and talents. To learn more, click here: www.swisd.net/penguinproject/

Holt-Cat Hires Six SWHS Student Interns for 2022-2023 school year.
Six Southwest High School students are getting a jumpstart on their careers while still in high school. They were hired at Holt-Cat as the newest interns for the 22-23 school year. The students enrolled in IT or Business courses have worked extremely hard to earn this internship.
“The managers at Holt-Cat couldn't say enough great things about our SWHS students. Mr. Howard Higgins and I are extremely proud of these individuals' accomplishments here at school, "said Business teacher Geraldine Molina.
To address an ongoing skilled trades gap, the HOLT High School Intern Partnership Program, created in partnership with SWISD, provides career opportunities for students in the communities we serve. It also provides HOLT with highly skilled and trained employees, especially in heavy equipment, power systems, and truck service, as well as welding and manufacturing.
The HOLT Intern Partnership Program is designed to provide technical skills and career development for high school students in automotive, Diesel, ag power, FFA-certified curriculum, and welding. HOLT’s program includes business and information technology in San Antonio and Irving. All interns in the program are paid as part-time HOLT employees.
