Newsletter Week 3, Term 1

Huirangi Primary School, Monday 14th February 2022

Kia Ora Koutou, Hello Everyone!

What a great start to the school year! All tamariki are happy and settled and are doing a fabulous job with their mask wearing. Thank you again to all of you for having conversations with your child about returning to school. The settled, calm and happy nature of our students has obviously been reflected by this.

This year we are trialing a different way of reporting to you on your child's academic progress. We will be holding 3-way Learning Conferences in Terms One and Three. These meetings will involve you, your child and their teacher and will include a progress report and a collaborative goal setting session. We are excited to be trialing this and will ask for your feedback at the end of the year to decide whether this format will continue or not.

This term our Policy Reviews focus on Health and Safety Management and Emergency, Disaster and Crisis Management. Please click on the links to read our policies and provide feedback where you think necessary. Username: Huirangi Password: raft

We have lots going on at school over the next few weeks, please take note of important dates coming up.

Ngā mihi nui,

Natalie Looney

2022 Year 5 and 6 Camp

Our Senior Students had an amazing time at Okoki and represented Huirangi School with pride. It was an extremely hot and humid two days, finishing off in the pouring rain on the third! It was an awesome experience for everyone involved, pushing us to our limits in some cases and exposing ourselves to challenges and experiences we may not have otherwise encountered.

A huge thank you to all of the parents who came to camp. Your help and support for all our tamariki was outstanding. The caliber of parents makes a camp, so thank you again for all you did. A huge thanks also to John Elliot from Out of Bounds who led a camp our kids will never forget.

We are VERY lucky to have Donna Bouzaid as our swim coach for the next five weeks. Donna is a top swim coach who has coached Olympic swimmers! Thank you to Todd Energy for funding the employment of Donna to teach our kids to swim!

Swimming is part of our curriculum in the summer months, so each child needs to come to school each day with their togs and towels - it is not an option !!

We feel very proud of the finished murals on the ends of Room 4. It has given our school some colour and character.

Thank you to Michael Montgomery who designed the murals and painted the bird scene and Dave Moore who painted the tohu. Also, a massive thanks to Methanex who funded this project. We are very grateful!
