Principal's Message
This week we experienced our first full week of school with four Block Period Days and Wellness Wednesday (with Single Periods). Your students continue to impress me every day! I love visiting their virtual classrooms and watching them interact with their teachers and peers.
During Distance Learning, we are aware that we need to provide balance between screen time and activities. One way to do this is to create lessons that support synchronous and asynchronous learning. Another way we are going to find this balance is with Wellness Wednesdays.
Although students will always attend Advisory for the full period on Wednesdays (8:30-9:10 a.m.), class Periods 1 through 6 may be conducted fully in an asynchronous manner depending on course content for that day. If this is the case, your student's teacher will clearly communicate the learning and attendance expectation before class. If students are unsure of what to do, they should contact their teacher(s) for more information. Parents should expect that their student will be attending a Google Meet or interacting with course material in the Google Classroom during their scheduled period.
Back to School Night will be held on Wednesday, September 16th, at 6:00 p.m. This event will include a brief Principal presentation and an asynchronous presentation from each of your student's teachers. Teachers will provide a parent engagement form which will allow for questions and feedback. A suggested bell schedule for the evening will be provided the day before the event along with login information for each class.
We realize our parent community is very busy, so if you prefer to watch Back to School Night at a different time, all presentations will be available after September 16th through the month of September.
As a reminder, all days next week will be Block Period Days:
- Tuesday/Thursday = Periods 1-3-5
- Wednesday/Friday = Periods 2-4-6
I wish everyone a wonderful 3-day weekend!

STAR Test Results
Thank you to all students for participating in the STAR Reading and Math testing this week. The District will post results to Aeries for parents to view once the results are ready.
From the Learning Commons
Reminder: for security purposes, all student must set their own Google passwords. They should NOT continue to use the default password of their full student ID number. For information on how to change passwords, please see the Tech Hub website.
Does your student like to read? Then they will love our digital library, Sora! We have thousands of eBooks available for your student to borrow for free, including the newest and most popular titles. We've got fantasy, sci fi, dystopian, nonfiction, graphic novels, manga, audiobooks, and more! And all they need to sign-in is their school username (last name, first initial, and last four digits of their student ID number) and password. Please see our eBooks page for more information.

DISTANCE LEARNING UPDATE
The first small group of middle school students to be considered for on-campus learning supports will be those who require special education instruction through modified (moderate/severe/developmentally disabled) or Seaside (social-emotional) programs. Families will remain informed as plans are developed and broader communication will follow when we expand our focus to additional student groups. Please know that safety is our number one priority and if we cannot make on-site activities safe, pursuant to the CDPH guidelines, we will not implement them.
