We Are Eagles Watch Us Soar
March 19, 2018
A Note from Mrs. Hernandez
Welcome Back from Spring Break Eagle Family!
I hope that your week of break was an enjoyable one for you and your families. We have started this week in full effect with learning and engagement in the classroom.
We ended our week before break with some awesome field day activities and watched our students experience physical fun through competition and laughter. Thank you for being a part of this fun field day event. I am certain that your child(ren) enjoyed seeing you take an active part in their day!
Now that we are back, our teachers have geared up and prepared some exciting lessons for your children to finish strong for the month of March. Please be sure to ask your child(ren) what they learned in class each day and what new technology tool was incorporated into their learning.
Let us SPRING into SPRING here at Emmott! Watch our Eagles continue to SOAR!

MIX IT UP AT LUNCH - No Place For Hate
This year, our students and staff are working hard to earn a designation as a No Place for Hate campus. No Place for Hate is a program that promotes a positive school climate and teaches students to eliminate bias and bullying.
One of our required activities includes “Mix It Up Lunch Day”. Our first opportunity to “mix it up” will be Tuesday, March 20, 2018. During lunches, we will encourage our students to take a new seat in the cafeteria. By taking a new seat and meeting new people, we can teach children that no matter what our differences are, we can all be friends!
It is critical to teach students about diversity at a young age. Research shows:
· Prejudice begins to take place in children as young as age three.
· In elementary school, children begin to realize that, by forming groups of friends, they can exert influence over others.
· By 2nd or 3rd Grade, students know what it means to be popular or unpopular.
We encourage you to ask your child to reflect on his/her experience at “Mix It Up Lunch”. You may want to ask:
· How did you feel about the event? Why?
· Did you learn anything interesting about someone you didn’t know?
· Did you share something about yourself with anyone? How did that make you feel?
· Did you make any new friends?
Thank you for your support in this important event. In working together, we may begin to make students more aware of diversity, acceptance, and tolerance. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us at (281) 897-4500.
Please note that when you register, you will be able to "specify" that you are joining as a member under Emmott Elementary. Let's see how many people we can get to join us!
We Need Your Feedback on our Scholastic News Homework for 2nd-5th (see survey below)

2nd Grade Program
Title 1 Program Information
Title I is a federally-funded program designed to reinforce the basic and advanced skills of students who are struggling in school. Title I is part of the No Child Left Behind Act passed by Congress in 2002. A school is selected as a Title I school on the basis of the number of families within its boundaries who are eligible for free or reduced price meals. Students are selected to participate based on academic need. In Cypress-Fairbanks ISD Title I students are those who need additional help in reading, writing, math, and science. Standardized reading, writing, math, and science tests and classroom performance scores help determine who will receive Title I instruction. Individual diagnostic tests are given when more information is needed. Most Title I funds are used to hire additional teachers; however, funds are also used to purchase instructional materials, provide staff development, offer extended time for learning, and increase parent involvement.
At Emmott Title I Funds have been used for the following:
- Teacher Conferences
- Literacy Library books
- Classroom Instructional materials
- Book Bags for reading
- Math Manipulatives
- Enrichment Staff
- Honor Roll Recognition Awards
- PBIS Incentives
- NP4H Initiative
- Classroom Furniture
Emmott will host a Title 1 Parent/Student Academic Night in the Spring Semester. We encourage you to attend and participate in the learning that takes here at Emmott!
