Vision
Academic Excellence and Success
From Mr. R's Desk
Bobcat Nation,
Please understand the impact you have in your classroom. When you close that door at the beginning of each period...whatever magic happens or doesn't' happen is because of you the teacher. No one else.
The Blueprint to teacher success
- Have the end in mind. "What are you shooting for? What will students gain from having you as a teacher?"
- Plan out the entire year. Remember..."failing to plan is planning to fail."
- Know your audience and connect your lesson with your students. "How do you engage students?"
- Create benchmarks for each marking period. "Your assessments should tell you if students are mastering the objectives."
- Collaborate with colleagues. "How often are we meeting to discuss student achievement and/or planning with colleagues?"
- Set high expectations from day 1 [academic and behavior].
- Create intervention plan for yourself and students. "Don't tell me all students can learn; tell me what you will do when they don't."
- Spiral lessons and target hot-spots. "Use the data because numbers never lie."
- Monitor student progress [weekly].
- Tutor students and be accessible.
- Show zero movies during school year. "The best teacher is the teacher not Netflix."
- Communicate with parents. "Everyone should be making positive phone calls."
- Attend student events and build those relationships. "Students don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care."
- Display student work in classroom.
- Student-created word walls are way better than teacher-created.
- Students should express themselves in written form.
- Create opportunities for student collaboration.
- Show up every day. "Teacher attendance is crucial."
- Be passionate about student success not just your content. "How do you get kids excited about learning and your classroom?"
- Create an environment where the teacher becomes the learner and the students become the teachers.
