Congratulations to Grade 7 student Edward Kovac who represented Selwyn House at the Expo-sciences Science and Technology Fair on March 24. Edward’s project on building cheaper hearing aids using a 3-D printer was inspired by his grandmother. Edward won the $100 Ted Rogers Award for innovation, and won a copy of the Antidote software. He will go on to represent Montréal in the Junior Category at the Quebec Provincial Science Fair later this month. We’re so proud of Edward for all his hard work!

Student-led Fundraiser on April 14: Hugo Culver (‘21) and his classmates are holding a fundraising event for the Douglas Foundation, a non-profit organization that has the goal of improving the mental health of all. To do so, they rely on community donations which go to the prevention and treatment of mental illness, the broadening of public access to mental health services, as well as helping break the stigma surrounding mental illness. The foundation is based right here in Montreal. If you would like to contribute to this great cause, students can bring their donation next Wednesday April 14th, at 11:30-1:30pm. Our event will take place in the Guzzo Yard, where phys ed coach Derek Widgington will be bench pressing. The challenge is, every 2$ donated will be an extra pound that Derek has to press. The goal is to see how far he can go, and hopefully get to the point where his strength will be no match for the weight. 100% of the proceeds go to the Douglas Foundation.

Free Virtual Workshops for Parents of Teenagers: CIUSSS West Central Montreal is offering workshops to parents of teens on topics such as effective communication, conflict resolution, and setting limits. See the attached flyers in English and in French for workshop dates and registration information. Please note you must register in advance.

From the Advancement Office ~ Stronger Together Annual Giving Campaign:

  • Parent Giving Update: As we embark on these last three months of our Annual Giving Campaign, we encourage all Selwyn House parents to participate if you have not already done so. Our numbers are on the rise! 23.9% of current parents have made a contribution thus far. Thanks to the SHS community, we have raised $247,260 towards our $500,000 goal for Covid-Relief efforts, exceptional programs, professional development and bursary support.

  • Gifts don’t have to be large to make a difference – every single gift is important. In this time of uncertainty, as Covid concerns continue, we are incredibly grateful for all contributions. When we join forces, we are Stronger Together. To participate: Donate online or send a cheque payable to the Veritas Fund. For more information, please contact Mary Ann Cloherty (514) 931-9481 x 2294.
