Calendar Of Events (Revised)
A Message From Executive Director, Dr. Troy A. Monroe
Jumoke Academy Community,
As we announced via robocall, text message, and news media last night, all Jumoke Academy schools will be closed effective Monday, March 16th, as a precaution. All schools will be closed for 2 weeks, a plan is currently being put in place for how these days will be made up. We will continue to communicate with our community.
As I continue to monitor the spread of the Coronavirus, I will be meeting with key leaders and personnel weekly about this matter. I will provide our community with updates as they become available. Until then, we can all take steps to stay informed and help minimize the impact of this virus by:
- Avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
- Covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
- Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
- Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces.
- Staying home when you are sick, except to get medical care.
- Washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
Sincerely,
Troy A. Monroe, Ed.D.

Unity
I dreamed I stood in a studio,
And watched two sculptors there.
The clay they used was a young child’s mind,
And they fashioned it with care.
One was a teacher—the tools she used,
Were books, music, and art.
The other, a parent—working with a guiding hand,
And a gentle loving heart.
Day after day, the teacher toiled,
With a touch that was deft and sure.
While the parent labored by her side,
And polished and smoothed it o’er.
And when at last, their task was done,
They were proud of what they had wrought.
For the things they had molded into the child,
Could neither be sold nor bought.
And each agreed they would have failed
If each had worked alone,
For behind the teacher stood the school,
And behind the parent, the home.

Thelma Ellis Dickerson Charter School
Our flagship school, affectionately nicknamed “TED” in honor of the illustrious founder is a Pre-K- Grade 4 elementary academy. This school serves as the model for each of the Jumoke Academy expansion schools that have followed. Located at 250 Blue Hills Avenue in Hartford, the elementary school is the heart of our organization. Most of our middle school students started their school years here at TED and continued through the halls of the other Jumoke Academy Schools. TED has a vibrant family community and staff and is a one of a kind place for education for our scholars.
