Beckman Writing Center
BHS is pleased to announce the opening of its Writing Center. The goal is to support student writers through all aspects of the writing process: brainstorming, drafting, editing, and revising. While our initial focus is on providing a strong foundation for our freshmen writers - we plan to expand to all grade levels soon. The center is located in room 101 and will be open Tuesdays and Thursdays zero period, sixth period and after school. Priority will go to appointments (made through the freshmen English teachers) but drop-ins are welcome.
Math and Science Tutoring at Beckman
Does your student need a little extra help in math or science? Maybe they just need a place to go and work quietly with the assurance that someone is there IF they need help? Thanks to the support of Beckman's EdFund, we have partnered with Cal State Fullerton to provide highly qualified tutors Mon - Thurs after school from 2:45 - 4:15 in rooms 708 (Math) and 706 (Science). The tutors are aspiring math and science teachers who are excited to help our students. Please take advantage of this great resource!
Last Day to Request a Class Change
District policy states that students wishing to make a course change have until the fourth Friday of the semester to request the change. This year, the last date to make such a request falls on September 7th. Keep in mind that changes can only be made if space permits. Also, we will not grant teacher change requests. Students wishing to request a change will need to complete an Add/Drop form found on the Beckman website and turn it into the counseling office.
Students Return for Registration
Student returned to campus in early August to move through the registration process. Over the course of 4 days, roughly 3000 moved through the registration process in preparation for the 2018-19 school year. A special thank you to all the PTO and EdFund parents who assisted at various stations and helped successfully move so many students through the process.

Counseling Welcomes Mrs. Conrad
Please welcome Monica Conrad who has joined the BHS Counseling team while Mrs. Farrell is on maternity leave. Mrs. Conrad started her career in education teaching History for four years, three at a middle school and one year at a high school. She then changed over to counseling last year, working as a substitute counselor all of last year at Fullerton Joint Union High School District. In her free time, she loves spending time with her 2 month old Sophia and her husband, Brad.
Active Shooter Training with IPD
On August 10th, our staff spent several hours with representatives from the Irvine Police Department working through various scenarios and simulations that may occur in an Active Shooter situation. Teachers were put through impromptu activities that required quick thinking and then given expert advice on their responses from representatives with IPD. The training was received extremely well by staff and lead to a number of positive discussions about student safety on our campus. Thank you to IPD for their assistance.
