Important information about fun activities, your classes, ways to get money, and even college acceptances are ONLY sent by email in most cases. Saying, “I don’t check my email” does not excuse you when you miss out on things. If you do not know how to log in and check your IRSC or Clark emails, see Mr. Watson at the front desk during block 3 or upstairs in his office.

Notable People and Events as shared on morning announcements
2/15- Mae Jemison wasn’t just the first African American woman who orbited into space board the shuttle Endeavour. She's also a physician, teacher, a Peace Corps volunteer, and president of tech company, the Jemison Group. She continues to work towards the advancement of young women of color getting more involved in technology, engineering, and math careers.
2/16- Benjamin O. Davis Sr. was the first Black general in the American military. He served for 50 years as a temporary first lieutenant at an all-Black unit during the Spanish American War. Throughout his service, Davis Sr. was a professor of military science at Tuskegee and Wilberforce University, a commander of the 369th Regiment, New York National Guard, and special assistant to the Secretary of the Army. When he retired in 1948, President Harry Truman oversaw the public ceremony. Davis Sr. is buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
2/17- Henrietta Lacks. After being diagnosed with cervical cancer at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in 1951, a sample of Lacks's cancer cells were taken without her consent by a researcher. And though she succumbed to the disease at the age of 31 that same year, her cells would go on to advance medical research for years to come, as they had the unique ability to double every 20-24 hours. "They have been used to test the effects of radiation and poisons, to study the human genome, to learn more about how viruses work, and played a crucial role in the development of the polio vaccine," Johns Hopkins said.

Every day is a celebration!
Make a Difference Mondays! Not only is it Valentine’s Day and the start of random acts of kindness week, but today also marks the 4 year anniversary of the tragedy at Marjory Stoneman Douglas high school. To honor those victims, many students engage in acts of service to show they care about their school, their community, and people in general. Let’s all commit to making a difference this Monday through being positive and doing something kind for another person.
Take Care Tuesdays! ...and since it’s also random acts of kindness week, today’s tip is about the importance of being kind to yourself. A wealth of research has shown the positive consequences of self-compassion on numerous aspects of our well-being, including a greater life satisfaction, emotional intelligence, interconnectedness with others, wisdom, curiosity, happiness, and optimism. Self-compassion is also associated with less self-criticism, depression, anxiety, fear of failure, and perfectionism. Be a little kinder to yourself now that you know how important it is!
Way to Go Wednesdays! Public Safety Officer Williams submitted Rudy Francois to be recognized for seeing a car on campus that didn’t belong and alerting her so she could help the lost family find the library. It is very important that ll of our staff and students remain alert to keep us safe here at Clark. Thanks, Rudy, for doing the right thing without hesitation!
Thankful Thursdays! Today we are thankful to be living in the United States where we are afforded many opportunities. Monday is a celebration of Presidents Day. This holiday initially began in the 1880s, when the birthday of George Washington—commander of the Continental Army during the American Revolution and the first president of the United States—was first celebrated as a federal holiday. Eventually, Lincoln’s February birthday was also officially celebrated and now we look to Presidents Day to celebrate the many leaders of our great nation since being founded.
Fun Fact Fridays! No school today.
