READ ALL ABOUT IT!
May - June 2015
We say goodbye to this school year but look forward the next.
Our rising 5th graders will explore new experiences in the middle school, our rising 8th graders are on their way to the next chapter in their academic career as high school students and our Laconia High School Graduates begin their journey as young adults in the world with vast opportunities.
We are humbled, reflective and grateful. We have so many memories, gained incredible knowledge and developed lifelong skills.
"My path has not been determined. I shall have more experiences and pass many more milestones."

Laconia Middle School
Project EXTRA came back with force this year at LMS. We improved, empowered, and encouraged one another all year long. Each and every day we offered amazing opportunities for middle school students: Research & Design, Improv!, Computer Coding, Cooking Matters, B3 Boys/Girls Club, Winter Survival, Minecraft, Spanish, Toastmasters, Board Games and Stand-Up Laconia. With so much offered, students were always on the move!
Partnered with the Boys and Girls Club; Project EXTRA students gave back to their community of Laconia. Students helped rake up leaves for the club, designed and unveiled a holiday window at Sawyers Jewelers, and traveled to Bolduc Park to clean up the grounds, just to name a few! Our students donated their time and efforts throughout the entire year to better the city they live in.
As we close out this final session of Project EXTRA and reflect, I am so proud of all of my students and how far they have come. Thank you to my wonderful staff for taking time to enrich the lives of Laconia's youth!

Woodland Heights School
This session, our students took time to put together an Under the Sea Carnival for the end of year celebration. They poured a lot of leadership, creativity, and collaboration into this event. They created a “Plinko” game, which was fabricated using donated pegboards and wooden dowels. Students colorfully decorated a recycled bowling game, created a cardboard dolphin bean bag toss and a fishing game. Karate students will participate in a demonstration and Belt Ceremony with Sensei Russ Jones to show off skills they achieved this year.
As we say goodbye to this year and prepare for summer, I am filled with gratitude. We have a supportive and community based school administration, teachers, and staff.
~Mr. Colby
Pleasant Street School
Pleasant Street Students have been enjoying the sunshine and keeping their brains and bodies active and healthy! Eco Art collected pieces of nature to create beautiful collages. Basketball Club has been practicing boxing out using the outdoor courts. Students in Weird Science invented some cool foam dough using baking soda and dish soap-it was definitely an easy and fun clean up! Yoga Kids continue to practice relaxation techniques and poses. Art Surprise and Lights!, Camera!, Action! collaborated to create movies using their drawings. Happy Feet and Panther Pride continue to learn about ways that make us happy and how to show pride in ourselves and school!!
We will be celebrating the end of the year with exciting themes and activities June 1st-June 5th: Monday students will participate in an outdoor scavenger hunt, Tuesday will be make your own taco day, Wednesday is wacky water day, Thursday we will host a penny carnival (each game will cost a penny and then we will donate the raised funds will be donated to the Got Lunch program), Friday we will end our week with an extra recess and memories of the awesome year we have had together!
~Mrs. O'Neil-Viar
We wish her well in her endeavors and have no doubt that she will continue on the path of success.

Elm Street School
Elm Street School Students in our Book Club recently read 'The Day The Crayons Quit'. After reading the story, students thought about what types of things they would color if they were a crayon. After, club members were able to journal their thoughts and ideas.
In Gardening Club, we experimented with peanuts, yarn and water with the objective: Test whether plants can grow without adequate sunlight and water. We added more water to some seeds and less sunlight to others. We observed that the peanuts sprouted roots with adequate sunlight and moderate watering. The other test subject with less than adequate sunlight and overabundance of water, grew mold and did not germinate. Students had fun observing the plants and documenting their progress.
Thank you to all the families who came out and supported our Family Bingo night on May 27th. With your donations, we were able to raffle a gift basket that raised $70 to be donated to the New Hampshire Humane Society. Students had a great experience and are already coming up with ideas to make next year's bingo event that much more successful.
We have had a year full of experiences, memories and gratitude. To celebrate the end of the year, we planned events for every day during the week of June 1-5:
- Monday: Movie day, sun catcher's & face painting
- Tuesday: Ice cream sundaes, dance party & face painting
- Wednesday: All things art day
- Thursday: Kickball & photo decorating
- Friday: Relay races & pizza party
Happy Summer!
