Principal's Message
Dear Ride Families,
The Spring is a busy testing season. We are typically testing in every grade level at some point. The state has the STAAR test scheduled for all 3rd - 11th grade students in April and May. Each grade level administers different tests. On April 6th, our incredible 4th graders will be taking the STAAR Writing test. The test involves writing a composition response to a prompt, and a revising and editing section. We are very proud of our 4th graders and excited to showcase the learning and growth that has taken place in writing on Tuesday, April 6th when we return from the long weekend.
Please help your child have the best opportunity to be successful by making sure they get a good night’s sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, and encourage them to do their best on the test and put forth their best efforts. We have included some tips for reducing test anxiety below in the newsletter.
The month of April is Autism Awareness month. We will kick off the month by wearing BLUE or an Autism shirt on Monday, April 5th. I hope you can help us Light It Up BLUE.
The Autism Society recognizes that the prevalence of autism in the United States has risen from 1 in 125 children in 2010 to 1 in 54 in 2020 – recognizing this continued increase, the goal for Autism Awareness Month is to further increase awareness about autism signs, symptoms and opportunities. For more information: Autism Society.
We hope you have a wonderful three day weekend,
Megan Burnham

Please remember to self check your family before sending them to school each day.
Parent Strategies for Reducing Test Anxiety
Emphasize the following points often and in a positive manner:
· the test is only one measure of academic performance.
· test scores do not determine their worth.
· always do your best efforts.
· promote plenty of rest and eat enough.
· Increase confidence and self-esteem by building the belief that your child is valuable, worthwhile and capable.

Help us spread kindness and autism awareness.
