Charger Check-In

A Note from Ms. Owens
We've had some amazing events these past several days! Thank you to everyone who showed their support by participating in Broken Mary on Thursday night, Pack the House on Friday night, Oktoberfest on Saturday night, the VBC Reunion/School Advisory Board Induction/Golf Mass on Sunday morning, the Sunday evening mass with Our Lady of Guadalupe parish, or Monday's Eat & Earn at Portillo's. It was quite busy at St. Catherine!
This Sunday our 8th graders have their Mass of Enrollment at 9 AM. Parents and candidates should arrive no later than 8:45 so they can sign their commitment forms in the vestibule before mass.
Our friends at Little Something Extra Bakery & Cafe are hosting an Eat & Earn to benefit St. Catherine on Saturday and Sunday this weekend. This is a fabulous way to support a local business and the school at the same time!
Please remember the deadline for the FSA Wreath Sale is Wednesday, October 30.
Registration forms for November's Beyond the Books are due on Thursday, October 31.
Be on the look out for a Halloween Edition of the Charger Check-In tomorrow morning with guidelines for costumes, etc.
Thank you for all you do to support the St. Catherine community! Have a great rest of the week and see you at Trunk or Treat on Saturday!
Peace,
Kristine Owens
A Story about Attending Mass
Not long ago, I celebrated a funeral, where, in my conversation with the family, I learned that this person, who lived by Cicero Ave, would always walk to church for Mass at St. Catherine. The family emphasized that rain or shine, snow or cold, it made no difference. He always made it to Mass on Sundays by walking. It was only when his health began to fail that he no longer was able to walk to church. I thought to myself, what an example of commitment to how important Mass is.
This is the last weekend of the October Count. Wouldn’t it be great if all our school families show similar commitment to attending the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass this weekend? As we “Pack the Gym” for sports, wouldn’t it be great if we “Packed God’s House” for Mass this weekend. There’s nothing to lose and an Eternity to gain.
Yours in Christ,
Fr. Dennis
Strategic Plan - SWOT Analysis
This year brings us to the tail end of the school's three-year strategic plan which means it's time to draw up a new strategic plan. As we begin work on the new strategic plan, it is important that we hear from our stakeholders - and parents are certainly an important group of stakeholders.
- Just below this note, you will see a button labeled "Strategic Plan - SWOT Analysis." (SWOT stands for Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats.)
- You will also see a button linking you to a short video explaining what a SWOT analysis is in case it is something new to you.
- I urge you to take 5 or 10 minutes to participate in the SWOT so the school can gather your insights and use them to inform the development of our new strategic plan.
- Thank you to everyone who has already taken the time to share their feedback.
- The feedback form will be open until the end of October.
What is a SWOT analysis? (end after 4 minute mark)
First Responder Training - Wednesday, October 30
- While most of the training will be conducted inside the school building, residents may see a number of uniformed responders making entry to the building or emergency vehicles on the campus at different times during the training event.
- The training is being coordinated with school personnel and is not an actual emergency.
- Extended care will be relocated to the gym for this day.
- We do not anticipate any disruption to traffic patterns or parking around the campus during training.
As always, if you have questions or concerns, please contact kowens@scaoaklawn.org.

Tuesday Hot Lunch Ordering
The link for placing hot lunch orders is below. Please remember that ordering closes at noon the day before delivery.
There will, of course, be days when parents have ordered a hot lunch and their child is absent. On those days, parents (or another designated person) are welcome to pick up the child's lunch. In order for this to happen, parents must notify the school of the hot lunch pick-up prior to 11 AM and then the actual lunch must be picked up before 12:30 PM. We cannot keep lunches beyond that or send them home with students due to food safety regulations.
