Collective Teacher Efficacy
To build on the close read of U5 that we did at December's faculty meeting, here's a short video by John Hattie on Collective Teacher Efficacy. (It's only 1:22)
From...Deputy Superintendent's Office Newsletter (Focus on U6)
At Riley Elementary, we have addressed U6 in many ways:
- All teachers have a way that all students are greeted each morning. Some examples are: greeting each student by name, high fives/hand shakes, morning mini meeting in line before entering (sharing what to expect today), music with a positive message as they enter class.
- Staff mentor assigned to students needing positive attention and reassurance daily.
- The Student Council Broadcast, “Riley Rundown”, highlights students’ achievements and features staff (staff members share interests, college attended, favorite book, favorite elementary memory, etc.).
- Safe and Civil Team reviews “pink slips” (playground behavior infractions) to see which students need behavioral interventions and brainstorm ways to help those students individually.
- Students are celebrated in our monthly schoolwide assembly
- Rec aides know all of the students on the playground and have positive interactions daily (positive comments in the lunch line as students enter cafeteria), positive behavior slips issued while on duty to maintain positive rapport
- Some teachers have Guest Readers (parents) every Friday. Students are excited and proud to have their parents come to class to read and share a little bit about themselves.
- Teachers display student pictures with work in class to make the classroom a place that each student feels included
- Principal works with individual teachers to identify areas of concern (socio-emotional/poverty/homeless, etc.) for students and families and provide feedback and support to teachers as they make the classroom environment equitable for each student.
- Riley Staff has recently committed to seeking out more professional development in the area of Trauma Informed Instruction.

Questions on this survey are based on the results of the Change of Principal Workshop that was conducted last summer. The purpose of such data is to provide the site with areas of strengths and weaknesses to determine next steps for improvement.
