Who's involved and where?

There were 169,920 soldiers total, with 101,895 being from the Union and 61,025 from the Confederacy. Ulysses S Grant was commander of the Union and Robert E. Lee was commander of the conferderacy


The battle took place in Orange County and Spotsylvania Virginia


There were an estimated 29,800 casualties as a result of this battle. The Union held 18,400 of them while the Confederates had the other 11,400.

Was there a winner?

The battle was inconclusive with no winner. The Battle of Resaca took place shortly after the Wilderness Battle.
