What Is The California Gold Rush?
The California Gold Rush was when gold was discovered in California, and immigrants from all over the United States, and even from other countries came.
How It Started.
It all started on january 24, 1848. A man named James W. Marshall discovered a gold nugget floating down the American river, Marshall's find lead to lots of immigrants from all over the United States, coming to California. This event caused California's population to go way up, for example: the population in San Francisco went up by 19,000 people. A handful of fortune seekers came from China, Mexico, Turkey, and much more.

The California gold rush forever changed California, there was a way higher population then there used to be, and changed the demographic face of California by having it be one of the most ethnically diverse states in the Union by the 19th century.
