The Warrior's Heart - Eric Greitens
Three things Eric would take on vacation
Camera
I think he would take his camera on vacation because, before he was in the Navy SEALs he volunteered in college to go to third world countries and take pictures; such as Croatia, Rwanda, Zaire, and a more developed country, China. "I began photographing the children as they went to fill their jugs...they were intrigued by my camera." "I wasn't going to give up my camera. It had become an extension of me, a way of connecting to and preserving the stories of the people I met, and the places I traveled." page 90-91, Rwanda. Eric became so good with his camera that he says "Duke's parting gift to me took the form of another photography grant that paid for a plain ticket...to document the lives of children." page109, Duke University.
Boxing Gloves
Since Eric is a big built Navy SEAL, he would probably work out on vacation. And while he was in college he boxed, what a perfect way to stay in shape by taking his boxing gloves. Eric learned "...that becoming good at something took a lot of hard work and always do your best." page 53. "I learned as much about honor and discipline as I did about how to throw a jab." page 53. Boxing made him realize that he had a lot of potential mentally and physically.
Uniform and Navy SEAL Trident (Badge of honor)
I think he would bring his uniform because he is proud of being a Navy SEAL and serving his country. "SEALs fight from the sea, from the air, and from the land. We serve as the nation' elite commando force, and suddenly our country had a need for us. We trained hard, and over the next several months, we were shaped into warriors." page 276 9/11/01. There are 4 main parts to the Trident; "The anchor symbolizes the Navy, the premier force of power... the scepter of Neptune symbolizes a SEAL's connection to the sea... the pistol represents the SEAL's capabilities on land... the eagle, our nation's emblem of freedom, symbolizes the SEAL's ability to swiftly insert from the air." page 232-233.
