Dear parents and caregivers,

At the beginning of the term, I said to staff that Term Three is one of our busiest terms and it did not disappoint! Thank you to all the staff for all the extra things that you do to make our school a place that students want to come to!

Last Saturday, I attended the Telethon Speech and Hearing ‘Power of Speech’ event. This event celebrates the courage and inspirational outcomes possible for our students with hearing loss, as they presented their public speaking skills in front of a live audience. Each of our five TSH students spent time writing and practicing their speeches with our Teacher of the Deaf, Mr Tomlinson and Education Assistant, Mrs Chansaw throughout the term. A big congratulations to Klay, Will, Jordan, Ethan and Eleanor on presenting some great speeches … I was immensely proud of all of them. Each student will present their speech to the whole school next Thursday at assembly as we celebrate Deaf Awareness Week & International Week of Sign Language next week. Thank you to our TSH team for making this event a reality for our students.

While the Community Open Night wasn’t exactly as we planned, I was thrilled by the number of visitors to the classrooms on Wednesday afternoon. Despite the terrible weather, families braved the elements and came to look at the amazing classroom displays. It was a wonderful opportunity for students to showcase their classroom and for families to visit other year levels to celebrate learning. Thank you to our great staff for the fabulous classroom displays which were vibrant and engaging. Outside the admin, the new uniforms were displayed and the buzz from the students was very encouraging. More information about the availability of the new uniforms and the transition period will be made available at the beginning of next term.

The 2023 Book Fair was a roaring success!! This would not have been possible if not for our inspiration Librarian, Mrs Burgess. The theme this year ‘Hats off to Reading’, was well and truly bought to life with Mrs Burgess wearing various hats throughout the week. Thank you, Mrs Burgess, hats off to you!

At the beginning of this week, St Elizabeth’s underwent the Quality Catholic Education School Review and my Principal’s Review. Thank you to everyone who completed the online survey, first and second time! The process was an affirming one and the feedback provided will definitely ensure that St Elizabeth’s keeps on growing and improving.

A gentle reminder that Facebook is not the platform to air any grievances about the school, students or staff. Please come and see me to talk through any concerns or issues, the door is always open.

Next week is our final week for Term Three. There are a number of staff taking some well-deserved long service leave and I wish them safe travels. A reminder that students return to school for Term Four on Tuesday, October 10.

Wishing you all a great weekend!

God bless

Rebecca Clarke

Quality Catholic Education – People’s Choice Award

VOTE FOR: St Elizabeth’s entry for ‘Sacred Space’ in Religious Education category

‘Be still and know that I am God’ (Psalm 46:10). The simplicity of being still can bring us closer to God. The St Elizabeth’s Catholic Primary School sacred space has embraced the opportunity to be quiet and still with God, in His creation. The space celebrates our natural bush setting. Designated pathways were created using fallen logs from the property and the purpose of the space was defined by a simple, wooden cross. The sacred space supports personal faith formation and classroom learning. Children can reflect in the space during breaks and families can access the space for personal reflection or community prayer.

OR Place your vote for our school: Qsign Game

VOTE FOR: St Elizabeth’s entry for ‘Qsign Game Day’ in RELEGIOUS EDUACTION category

Quality Catholic Education – People’s Choice Award

The 20 key words of the ‘Qsign Project’ provide basic communication of an individual’s health and safety needs and supports family interactions. This has relevance for all but especially for those in aged care. The Year Five and Six students at St Elizabeth’s Catholic Primary School, learnt the project signs and created games to teach them. A group of clients from aged care and other retirees, attended a morning of learning, followed by a shared morning tea. The ‘Qsign Games Day’ is now an annual event, providing interaction with the elderly and engaging students to support the dignity and quality of life of the participants.

Thank you for supporting our Book Fair

Thank you to all the families who visited the Library and supported Book Fair. The Book Fair Colouring Competition Winners won a $20 voucher to spend at the fair - well done! Thank you Mrs Burgess for making the Book Fair so enjoyable - we appreciate all that you do.
