What's Perception Verses Reality?
Eaton Rapids Teen Alcohol Use in 2016
According to the Michigan Profile for Healthy Youth Survey, students perceived that 36% of their high school peers had recently used alcohol (red column on graph) when in actuality only 13% of Eaton Rapids High School students reported recently using alcohol (blue column on graph). Students seem to believe that more people are using alcohol than actually are, creating a negative social norm when in fact, the social norm is that most students are not using substances.

Fact: A study of popular music showed 1 in 3 songs said something about drug, alcohol or tobacco use.
3 in 4 rap songs said something about drug, alcohol or tobacco use.
Fact: In the top 100 movies in the last nine years, 1 in 3 movies showed people getting drunk.
7 in 10 of the top 100 movies showed characters smoking.
