We Made It!
Today, we ended the week with our annual school wide Geography Bee. Students went through 9 rounds of questions covering US and world geography. Each year I am blown away by the knowledge of our students!
As we head off for some much deserved relaxation, I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanukkah, and Happy Kwanzaa. It is a wonderful time of year for celebrating with friends and family, enjoy!
We will see you next decade!!
National Junior Honor Society Applications
NJHS would like to announce that students who obtained First Honors or Second Honors will receive application letters in their homerooms on Monday December 16, 2019 to apply for membership in the National Junior Honor Society at Dr. Philip O. Coakley Middle School. Students completion of the application and qualifying GPA does not guarantee acceptance into the National Junior Honor Society. Membership in the NJHS is both an honor and a responsibility. If you choose to apply and are selected for membership, you will be required to maintain a 92% GPA through the end of your current grade and up to the end of 8th grade, complete a service project each year at CMS or within the Norwood community, and maintain the highest standards of conduct.
If you are interested, you need to meet all application deadlines by January 6, 2020,listed below.

If you have questions please feel free to contact NJHS Advisor Mrs. Debra Harding at dharding@norwood.k12.ma.us.
NJHS Application Error
Invitations for the National Junior Honor Society were distributed this week. Due to a incorrect marking in Aspen, we believe some students were not marked as eligible and may not have received applications. If you believe your student is eligible for NJHS but they did not receive a letter, please contact your student's guidance counselor. Applications for NJHS are due by January 6th.
Recycle Your Plastic Bags For a Good Cause!
Recycle Your Plastic Bags For a Good Cause!
The Knitting/Crocheting elective class will be turning plastic bags into sleeping mats for the homeless. However we need your help. Each 2.5 by 6 foot mat uses between 500 and 700 plastic bags. We have set a goal of making 2-3 mats. So if you have extra plastic shopping, bread, bagels, or other plastic bags of similar size, we can use them. Students can bring the bags to the library where they will be turned into Plarn (Plastic Yarn) and made into sturdy waterproof sleeping mats to be given to the homeless. The link below is a video about how these mats are made.
