Leadership Quote - March
Caught Being a Leader
Tamera Barba… for hitting the ground running. Coming in mid-year, parent conferences, reading benchmarks, iStaion, faculty meetings, oh so much to learn and do. Kudos for your effort!
What an awesome asset to have Martha Silva joining the Bilingual office. She has started off full swing and has been busy as a bee. Thank you for all your hard work......we love your positive attitude and BIG smile. Bienvenida a Coker!!!!!
Leader in Me Tour
Coker hosted the Leader in Me training this past week. Mike Webb lead the training and Coker student leaders guided visitors throughout the campus. Many campus administrators had a lot to say about our LiM implementation. One administrator noted, “The pride and confidence of the student leaders who led the tour.” Another stated, “Goal setting was obvious-reading, math, leadership and more.” Experienced visitors acknowledged Coker's hard work and mentioned, “Even the Lighthouse schools learned from Coker. We saw many things that we can take back to our campus and go deeper with.” Our music department was mentioned as well. Another visitor stated, “The goal setting within the music classrooms was great! We are always looking for ways to include the specials classrooms.” They took note of other areas of campus as well and had the following to say: “The variance in grade level scoreboards was good to see. Some were more elaborate than others but all showed exactly what goals were being tracked.” and “The personal examples of students using the seven habits on the Beary Good Behavior wall was a great thing to see.” GREAT JOB COKER STAFF FOR LEADING BY EXAMPLE!
Documentation Requests from Parents

Coker Handbook Tidbits- Parties
Student parties will be held at mid-winter break and at the end of the year. The PTA room mothers will plan the parties in cooperation with the homeroom teacher. Students who are not allowed to celebrate due to religious reasons are often picked up prior to the party by their parents. If not, they may be sent to the library with a book, game, puzzle, or other things to do at that time.
Coker Handbook Tidbits- Snacks
Coker Handbook Tidbits- Birthdays
Birthdays are encouraged to be celebrated on a monthly basis with non-food items or special school recognitions. If food is used as part of the event these guidelines should be followed:
Birthdays must be celebrated during the last period of the day.
Activity must first be coordinated with child’s teacher.
Food must be commercially pre-packaged or prepared in a licensed facility. No items may be cooked or prepared at home.
Food items offered should be healthy, low-fat items.
Food items offered are to be individual portions such as cupcakes or cookies.
Items that are temperature sensitive are not allowed.
A parent can bring store bought cupcakes, cookies to celebrate a birthday, but must get approval from the teacher and can only be served the last thirty minutes of the school day. In accordance with district policy, we are unable to provide students with special luncheons, such as pizza, etc. during the students’ regular scheduled lunch period. This is considered to be in direct conflict with the Foods of Minimal Nutritional Value mandates. Food items may NOT be passed out at any other time due to School Nutrition guidelines.
Make someone's day.
