HERSHEY NOTES
October 26, 2017
FROM THE DESK OF MRS. FIELDS
Thank you so much for attending Parent/Teacher Conferences last week! We truly enjoyed this time with you and we look forward to strengthening our partnership with you throughout the school year. Don’t hesitate to call or email us as soon as questions or concerns arise. By working together, we will help your child achieve great things!
Thank you to each Hershey Parent that donated a food item for our teacher dinners during conference week! Everything was delicious and greatly appreciated!
The Scholastic Book Fair was a HUGE success! A huge shout out goes to our co-chairs
Mrs. Ketterer, Mrs. Siu-Chong and Mrs. Martin, as well as the many parents who worked the book fair. This event would not have been possible without the effort of our many volunteers.
We would like to give a shout out to firefighter Nick Wagner form the Buck Creek Volunteer Fire Department! He was with us October 16 teaching each class about fire safety. He brought the fire truck for students to inspect and he even sprayed the big fire hose! We then had a fire drill with the truck entering the property with sirens and lights blaring. This prepares students for what it would be like should there be a real fire. Be sure to ask your child what he or she learned from this special presentation!
Mark your calendars! There will be a special PTO Meeting Thursday, November 2, at 7:00. We are trying an evening meeting with the hope of getting more parents involved. This evening meeting will be a great way to connect with fellow Hershey families. We hope to have a record turnout! Please come!
Have a safe and relaxing Fall Break! We look forward to the kiddos’ return on Halloween!
MRS. LEHMAN'S UPDATES AND INFORMATION
radKIDS graduation: radKIDS graduation for our 5th grade and 2nd/3rd grade multiagers is coming up. We are approaching around 800 radKIDS from Hershey! What an amazing program for our students. Thank you for your support in this program. Thank you for the assistance of School Resource Officers Aaron Gilman and Rob Rush. SRO Rush has done a phenomenal job getting up to speed with our radKIDS program. The students really enjoy having him!
Technology Tips from Mrs. Greeley: Technology is evolving. There is no way to keep up with all the apps and media that your child can access. The best safety tip is to communicate with your child and create an open dialogue about the dangers that exist in the online world.
PICTURE RETAKE-MAKEUP DAY
If you wish to have re-takes, return the entire packet to our office with a note attached stating reason for request. Send this anytime so we can add the child to our list.
If you have any problems with the order you received, please contact LifeTouch at

VETERANS PROGRAM
Students brought home an invitation to pass along to a Veteran they know. We are proud of the attendance of Veterans at our past programs and anticipate the same this year.
A copy of the invitation is attached to this newletter.
We respectfully request that non-Veteran parents do not attend to allow adequate space for our Veteran guests.
Students are encouraged to personally mail, call or deliver the invitation.
RSVP by Nov. 8 to our office, 765-269-8280.
INtegrate Wellness
The last section of our four part series in healthy routines is devoted to sleep:
Stop the consumption of caffeine after 12:00 noon.
Stop eating three hours prior to bedtime. You want to go to bed when you feel like you could eat again.
Establish a consistent bedtime ritual that you do every night.
Limit exposure to bright lights before bedtime. Lights from computers, TV, smartphones and tablets are stimulating and can interfere with your ability to fall asleep.
Avoid watching TV or working in bed.
Make sure your bedroom is dark and cool.
