Roasting

Roasting is usually done by an oven or over an open fire; its very dry and hot.

Some foods that are generally roasted (in the oven) would be


  • Chickens
  • Veggies such as potatoes

Some foods roasted over fires would be


  • Hot dogs
  • Marshmallows (for s'mores)
  • Sandwiches
  • Bacon

Steaming

Steaming is when you have food products being cooked by hot water vapor. Usually you have boiling water and something to hold the food above it, a lot of times its done in a closed container/ pot.

Some equipment recommended would be a steamer.

Foods that are generally cooked by steaming would be


  • Vegetables
  • Leafy Greens
  • Chicken
  • Shell fish
  • Salmon
For added flavor you can steam foods on a bed of herbs.

How to Steam Vegetables

The VS

Some differences would be

  • with roasting its cooked right on the heat, while steaming the food is above the source.
  • Steaming might be a little bit quicker depending on what you cook

Some similarities would be

  • you can cook vegetables (and many other foods) with both
  • both taste good if done right
