November 2020

An Update From Principal Melissa Rohr

It’s hard to believe that we are already in the month of November. School closures, politics, and the ever looming holiday season has created a great deal of angst in the hearts of many people. However, each year November reminds me to take a step back, enjoy stormy days, and think about what I can be thankful for.

There is an old Finnish proverb that says, “happiness is the place between too little and too much”. When I think about that, I think about the many books I read as a child that brought this message home: Goldie Locks and The Three Bears, The Giving Tree, James and the Giant Peach, and How Joe the Bear and Sam the Mouse Got Together. Some of them are very old now, but still seem to hold their meaning in my heart. The saying itself seems to hold very true. Sometimes we think we need more, yet when we get too much we realize less would have been better and we dream of when life was more simple.

What I know today is that I am so thankful for our community, our families, our teachers, and of course our students. Even in this crazy, hard, and harsh world of COVID, students bring joy to our jobs and smiles to our faces. Without each of you, especially this year, education could never succeed. Our partnership is what makes education work and learning happen. Thank you for being an amazing partner in this journey.

Family Income Survey

Thank you to all of you who have completed our Family Income Survey which was distributed by our schools this fall.

Our school is participating in a federal program called the Community Eligibility Provision (CEP). This program allows all children in our District and community to eat school meals at no charge.

Some of the District's education programs are funded by the state, based on financial information previously collected on the free & reduced price meal applications. As a CEP participant, we no longer collect those applications but we are still required to provide household income data to the state to receive state funding for these programs.

Your completion of our confidential Family Income Survey helps ensure continued funding for these important programs. Thank you for your support!
