Learning Experiences for April 14 - 30
Dear Mallard Families,
This unique time continues for all of us, and we recognize how incredibly difficult this situation is for many families. Our FPES teachers have been working hard to identify another round of meaningful instructional activities for your child to do while he or she is at home from April 14 - April 30. We also included May 1 in the event we do not return to school on this day. Our goal in this work was to provide you with activities that are aligned with what your children typically do during the school day, recognizing it will not be the same as being in the classroom, but everything should be familiar. We worked to provide enough materials for each child to be engaged in academic learning for approximately 200 minutes each day.
This newsletter page will serve as our "Landing Site." This page will be used as a place where you can access all the instructional activities. We will be sending out a weekly reminder with the link to the Landing Site.
On the Landing Site, you will find "Buttons" to your child's grade level. This will take you to their assigned learning experiences. In each daily plan, children can start with the first activity and work their way down through the list. We worked to write the directions in "kid-friendly" language so children can be relatively independent as they work through the activities. We will also be mailing a paper copy to the families who are not able to pick those up at the school.
We certainly know there is a lot going on for families right now and recognize you may not be able to complete all of the activities given in a day....that is completely fine! You have the flexibility to decide when your child will work. If you have more than one child, you may need to alternate the days you work with each child. Use this flexibility to your advantage. Our intention is just to provide you with resources to keep your children actively learning and prevent regression while they are not coming to school.
Although students should do their best to complement their assignments, they should also take time to exercise, play, read, draw, write letters, work a puzzle, or just spend time together. If your child experiences any frustration, please feel free to have them discontinue the activity or make adjustments to it.
If your child receives additional services, such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, or physical therapy, these will be mailed home. These services are individualized and will not be available on the Landing Page.
Our teachers are communicating regularly with their students and their families about the quality of student work from the instructional learning packets. They continuously provide academic and standards-based feedback to students through telephone calls, emails and online meetings. All teachers are available to answer questions and give guidance and assistance during the day.
We appreciate your partnership as we navigate this unknown territory together. Please feel free to reach out to any of our staff members through e-mail if you have any questions or concerns along the way. Even though our building is closed to the public, you may call (803)-821-2500 and someone will return your call.
With Great Appreciation,
