Hello Crissman families!


As you know, the first day of school is Tuesday, August 30th! The first day of school is a half day, with dismissal at 12:24pm. Yahoo! We are so excited to welcome our Crissman Cougars back to School!


This newsletter contains important information to get you and your child ready for the 2022/2023 School Year. Please read carefully!


Emails went out yesterday, Thursday, August 25th with student teacher assignments. If you did not receive an email in your "inbox", please check your spam, junk, or clutter folder.


We are so excited to have an in-person Open House this year! Open House will be Tuesday, September 13th at 7:00 pm. We will all gather in the gym for a brief presentation to start the evening. After that, there will be two 20 minute sessions with teachers, if you have multiple students at Crissman. Hope to see you there!


I am so excited to be kicking off a fun and exciting idea for our staff! We are asking the community to help "Fill the Fridge" for the first day/week of school. This will welcome back our Crissman Teachers and Staff! Information can be found below.

SCHOOL INFORMATION

MORNING DROP-OFF

Hi Crissman Families, we will continue with our Parent drop-off lane from 9:00am-9:10am. Students will enter the building through the main doors next to Office Main Doors. Students will enter the gym/hallway. At 9:10am, students will be sent through the school to their classrooms.


Parent(s)/Guardians, please stay in your vehicles and let your child out in the "bus lane" area. We are also asking parents/guardians to turn RIGHT coming out of our school. See image below.


Parent(s)/Guardians- If you are driving after 9:10am, please do not use the bus loop. Park your vehicle and walk your child into the school.

First Day of School

Student Arrival/Dismissal



Students will enter through the building door assigned by grade, see map below. Our school day begins at 9:20 am. If your child has a late arrival, parents MUST sign students into the front office.


Parents, please note: supervision begins at 9:00 daily if you are using the PARENT-DROP off lane. Supervision begins in the back of the building at 9:10am.

Students will be dismissed from the outside classroom doors at 4:10 pm on full days of school. On half days, dismissal is at 12:24 pm.

2022-2023 UCS EMPLOYMENT

Below is a link to the Utica Community Schools employment page. Our district is still looking to fill many employment positions throughout the district. At Crissman, we are in need of Paraprofessionals for our AIM program and we also NEED LUNCH SUPERVISORS.

As a whole, we are still in need of bus drivers, as there is still a national shortage.

There are several items that ALL parents will need to indicate they have reviewed on their PowerSchool accounts in the Forms section:



  1. Student Address, Student Contacts, and Health Information
  2. Parent Student Handbook--signed/acknowledged that you have reviewed with your child
  3. Technology Device Use Agreement--review with your child
  4. Technology Device Insurance Opportunity--purchase through UCS online

Cut Off for Enrollment is Thursday, September 8, 2022

Utica Community Schools is proud to deliver 1:1 technology to our students. Depending upon the grade level, your child has been issued either an iPad or a Dell laptop including charging cords and any applicable accessories. Your child is responsible for the device at all times.


Additionally, a separate Technology Device Use Agreement that includes an electronic sign-off must be provided to the district prior to device distribution. This agreement includes the procedures for Board Policy 6600 - Acceptable Use of the District Technology Resources, acknowledgement that the Student Device Agreement has been discussed with your child, and you have read Board Policy 5160 – Information & Communication Technology. The Technology Device Use Agreement can be found by logging in to your Unified Classroom/PowerSchool parent account using a web-browser (found at this link), selecting “Forms” from the Quick Links menu, and then selecting “Forms” again from the navigation bar. Please note that the PowerSchool app does not contain a link to district forms. Forms are only accessible through a web-browser.


Damage Fees

In the event of damage to an iPad or laptop, district policies and practices require a charge be assessed to cover the repair or replacement cost of the device. The fees described below are based on use of a UCS-provided device and any damage to it, whether accidental or intentional, after it has been issued to the student.


Device Insurance Plan for Accidental Damage – Annual OPTIONAL COVERAGE

An annual insurance plan has been designed to help families if there is an accident that causes damage to the school issued device. When participating in the district’s insurance plan for $15 per year, any accidental damage reported will be covered as described below.

Insurance coverage will repair/replace the device for accidental damage with no cost incurred by the student for the first incident (claim). Subsequent damage repairs during the covered year will have a deductible assessed per instance. Insurance will cover a maximum of 3 damage occurrences during the covered year. The deductible fee schedule for each damage occurrence is outlined below. Please note, if insurance is not purchased, actual repair costs (not to exceed the cost of the device) will apply.

Device Damage/Occurrence Fees (WITH INSURANCE)

  • First Occurrence - NO CHARGE
  • Second Occurrence – not to exceed $75 (iPad) / $150 (laptop)
  • Third Occurrence – not to exceed $150 (iPad) / $300 (laptop)
  • Thereafter – full repair/replacement cost


ITEMS NOT COVERED BY THIS OPTIONAL PLAN:


ACCESSORIES ARE NOT COVERED BY INSURANCE

· Accessories include, but are not limited to, a USB power adapter, charging cable and/or protective iPad case.

· Replacement of lost or damaged accessories is the responsibility of the student. Utica Community Schools recommends Original Equipment Manufacturer replacements.


INTENTIONAL DAMAGE IS NOT COVERED BY INSURANCE

· Any damage reported due to misuse, neglect or any other form of intentional damage will result in fees up to the full cost of replacing the device, regardless of your participation in the annual insurance plan.


DAMAGE DUE TO REMOVAL OF THE PROTECTIVE IPAD CASE IS NOT COVERED BY INSURANCE

· Utica Community Schools has selected a protective iPad case for all district issued iPads. Students must NEVER remove the case.

· Any damage that occurs due to the removal of an iPad case is considered INTENTIONAL DAMAGE and is not covered by insurance.


LOST OR STOLEN DEVICE

· Lost devices are NOT COVERED under this optional insurance policy.

· In the case of theft of an iPad or laptop, a copy of a completed police report MUST BE RETURNED to Utica Community Schools. A stolen device IS COVERED by the purchased insurance ONLY IF a police report is filed and a copy provided to the district.

BREAKFAST AND LUNCH INFORMATION

School Meals for 2022-2023 School Year

The USDA sponsored pandemic-related free school meal program has ended. During the 2022-2023 school year all families will be responsible for the full price of school meals unless they have applied and been approved for free or reduced priced meals. To apply for these accommodations, visit https://utica.familyportal.cloud. Please note that last year’s application will expire on October 13, 2022. Additionally, families may deposit funds on their student’s lunch accounts at the same website.

MEDICATION AT SCHOOL

Medication at School

Any child who needs to have medication administered at school will need to have completed medial forms on file for each medication. This includes over-the-counter medications, such as Tylenol/Advil, cough drops, allergy medication, and others.


Children may not bring any medication to school, including allergy medication, without signed medical forms on file. Please do not send medication to school in your child's backpack, such as inhalers, EpiPen, or over-the-counter medications as they will be asked to keep the medication in the office for parents to pick up. If your child needs to have medication in their backpack per Doctor recommendation, UCS requires the completed medical form to be on file with the office.
