Using a Backchannel in the Classroom
Many students have side discussions in class. They pass notes, text, and tweet. Are they discussing valuable information that could benefit the class?
A backchannel can be a great tool to have a discussion while the class is involved in a lecture, project, or other activity. A backchannel is a digital conversation that runs concurrently during instruction. It gives even reluctant learners a voice. The advantage to using backchannels is that they can be monitored, saved, and shared.
