Positivity Project: Theme of the Week: Other People Mindset
This week our school community will be focusing on a review of the 24 character strengths and the Other People Mindset.
Over the course of this year, we have gained an understanding and appreciation of the 24 character strengths that are in all of us. Every 1-2 weeks we learned about a different character strength or Other People Mindset element. This knowledge has helped us build strong relationships with other people and become our best selves. People who have strong positive relationships do five things consistently - these are the five practices of the Other People Mindset. 1. Recognize the good in other people, 2. Recognize that everything you say or do affects other people, 3. Support others when they struggle, 4. Cheer people on when they succeed, 5. Remain present when giving people your attention. People who have a strong Other People Mindset are able to build and maintain strong, positive relationships with others.
This year, by deliberately and consistently teaching students that relationships are important — and that positive relationships are cultivated through character and the Other People Mindset — our school community has experienced firsthand how positive relationships help us become happier, healthier, and more resilient.
To practice and encourage the character strength of perspective with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2), where together you will watch a video, read a quote, and talk about the answers to three questions.
Have a wonderful week!
Congratulations Local Scholarship Winners & Thank You Local Donors
Over 80 scholarships were awarded by 50 different donors totaling over $265,000!!!
As a result of a partnership with the Fenton Education Foundation, unlike in previous years, students had to wait until after their first semester to obtain the scholarship, in most cases, students will be provided with a check soon after they submit a “Thank You” note to the donors.
See a list of the Local Scholarship Winners below.

Google Classroom - How to JOIN A Class
All FHS Students - Join Classes in Google Classroom
After getting your schedule online via Parent/Student Vue, ALL FHS students should go into the Google Classroom and enter the "Class Codes" for the correct hour and class taught by his/her teachers.
To "join" the Google Classroom for all of your classes follow these three steps:
1. Check your FHS gmail for a Google Classroom invite from your teacher.
2. If there is no invite, log into Google Classroom to see if the classroom is there to JOIN. You are looking for a JOIN code.
3. Email your teacher (ex. jane doe = jdoe@fentonschools.org). You can find the first initial of your teacher's first name on your schedule.
Note: Parents can also JOIN a class in Google Classroom to view grades, assignments, project and test reminders, handouts, etc. Email the teacher and ask to a Google Classroom invite.
Social-Emotional Health & Wellness
Helping Families with Medicaid Keep Their Coverage
The Michigan Department of Education has been asked to share with local school districts urgent information for families. Districts are being asked to send
1) #StayCovered information sheet (see graphic below)
2) Medicaid redetermination email (see below)
SUBJECT LINE: Helping Medicaid members keep their coverage.
HEADLINE: Take action to avoid a gap in coverage.
At the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, the federal government declared a Public Health Emergency (PHE), allowing Medicaid members to keep their health care coverage. Per recent federal legislation, eligibility renewals will start again in June. Monthly renewal notifications will be sent by mail beginning in May.
Get ready to renew now. Following these steps will help determine if you still qualify:
- Make sure your contact information is up-to-date.
- Check mail or text messages for a letter.
- Complete your renewal form (if you get one).
- If you’re a Medicaid member, learn more about how these changes may affect your health care coverage at Michigan.gov/2023benefitchanges.
More information can be found at MDHHS website: www.michigan.gov/2023BenefitChanges or on the DIFS website: www.michigan.gov/StayCovered.
