Eid Al Fitr: Happy Eid to our students and staff
The religious festival Eid al-Fitr, or the “Festival of Breaking the Fast,” is one of two major holidays celebrated by Muslims around the world. In the United States, Eid al-Fitr 2022 is thought to begin on the evening of Sunday, May 1 and ends on the evening of Monday, May 2nd. Eid will be recognized by the NYC DOE on Monday May 2nd.
Also known as the “Lesser Eid,” Eid al-Fitr commemorates the end of the fasting month of Ramadan. An occasion for special prayers, family visits, gift-giving and charity, it takes place over one to three days, beginning on the first day of Shawwal, the 10th month in the Islamic calendar.
If you have Muslim friends or co-workers, you can wish them an “Eid Mubarak” or “Happy Eid”
Summer 2022 Updates

2. Students MUST wear:

- Pants/shorts/skirt, (e.g. jeans, leggings, sweatpants)
- Shoes, (for safety reasons students cannot wear flipflops, slides, slippers, or any footwear that may be hazardous in a large group setting; sandals that are secured with a strap are allowed)
3. Students CANNOT wear:
- Violent/obscene language or images.
- Images or language depicting/suggesting illegal activity, including drugs, alcohol, vaping or paraphernalia.
- Images or language that creates a hostile or intimidating environment targeting groups based on race, religion, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, body type/size etc.
- Any clothing that reveals visible undergarments.
- Pajamas
- Hats, caps, kerchiefs, bandannas (unless approved for religious, cultural, medical, or school-spirit reasons)
We understand that current fashion trends and personal preferences may not be totally aligned with our dress code. However, we feel that these guidelines do allow for sufficient choice and are fair and appropriate for middle school children. We appreciate your support and cooperation toward establishing a formal yet comfortable learning environment for all of our students.

8th Grade Senior Update
As we approach our seniors’ final months here at Paulo, below are a few updates relating to our culminating events.
Graduation Ceremony Change
In lieu of multiple ceremonies, we will be holding a single ceremony for all graduates on Wednesday, June 22, 2022 at 9:00AM in our schoolyard. (Rain date is Thursday, June 23.) Each family will receive two tickets (graduates do not require a ticket). Please be advised that only students who have met promotional requirements for eighth grade may participate in the graduation ceremony.
There will be limited additional seating available for guests. Beginning June 1st, if you wish to receive additional graduation tickets, a written request to the attention of our parent coordinator, Ms. Taccetta, including the number of additional tickets needed (2 maximum) and the reason for the request, must be submitted. All written requests will be honored based on need and in the order they are received. As this year’s graduating class is sizable, please note that only 1 additional ticket will likely be granted in most cases. Please plan accordingly. We will continue to accept requests as long as tickets are available.
As per current DOE guidance, visitors attending an outdoor school event, such as our commencement ceremony, are not required to show proof of vaccination but must complete the Health Screening questionnaire on the day of the event.
Graduation Gown Distribution
Students who have paid their senior dues received their graduation gown this week, on Thursday, April 28th. These gowns should be hung (not ironed) to remove any wrinkles. Replacement of misplaced/damaged gowns costs $20 and may not be feasible on short notice in the final weeks of the school year.
Paulo Graduate Lawn/Window Sign Distribution
Because the stakes accompanying the sign are potentially unsafe to distribute en masse during the school day, lawn/window signs are available for pick up on the following Saturdays: April 30 and May 21. Pick up times are between 9:30AM and 11:00AM.
Families may also grab one for a friend, however, only families who have paid their senior dues are eligible to receive a sign. Please be sure to bring ID and arrive via the main entrance.
Senior Trip and Senior Dues – In order to be eligible to attend our senior trip to Six Flags in Jackson, NJ on June 3, students must meet our academic and behavioral expectations. Further, students will be not permitted to attend the senior trip if his or her senior dues are not paid.
Payment of senior dues and the senior trip can be made via our website at https://www.is75.org/ under the School Store/Online Payments tab. If you have any questions concerning the dues or activities planned, please reach out to our senior events coordinators, Ms. LaRocca or Ms. Boshnack, via PupilPath, or feel free to contact us at 718-701-6343.
Arista and Senior Awards
The grade eight Arista ceremony is slated for 9:00AM on Wednesday, May 18th. Our senior awards ceremony is set for June 14th at 6:00PM. As these are indoor events, a limited number of vaccinated guests will be permitted to attend, and the event will be live-streamed for all unable to partake in person. Details on each event, including notification of eligible candidates will be shared soon via our Arista coordinator, Ms. Jeannine Valenti and our Senior Awards coordinator, Ms. Ann Coscio.
Additional senior upcoming events:
June 1 – Grade 8 assembly Tic-Tac-Toe (similar to game show assembly earlier in the year)
June 17 – Panther Day/Talent Show
June 24 – Shutterbug Day/Carnival
In closing, we look forward to recognizing the Class of 2022’s achievements over the past three years at our upcoming culminating events. These events are, after all, not only a celebration of your child’s accomplishments, but a testament to your hard work, patience, support, and trials in parenthood during a most difficult time.
Again, for your convenience, all Class of 2022 updates are also posted on our school website under the Parents tab, under the Class of 2022 Updates dropdown.
