Recognizing Women of Character, Courage, and Commitment

GES celebrates accomplished women during March. This week's guest: Sunni Lynn Vickery

As we continue to celebrate Women's History Month in March, Grayson Elementary students and staff enjoyed a GETV interview on March 20 with Ms. Sunni Lynn Vickery, CEO and Wedding Planner for her company, Cottage 84, an event venue a short walk from our Grayson Elementary campus

Ms. Vickery (shown below with her interviewer Michael) has been interested in creating business ventures since her childhood. She recalled enjoying the novels of Ann M. Martin, The Baby-Sitters Club series, about a group of young friends who ran a local babysitting service. That inspired Ms. Vickery to create her own Baby-Sitter's Club, and try other money-making services as a child, such as selling lemonade.

During the global pandemic that first surfaced in 2019, Ms. Vickery changed careers and became a wedding planner, which she enjoys very much, and operates Cottage 84 and its many services with her husband Jordan.

All entrepreneurs understand the hard work that goes into operating successful businesses. Ms. Vickery shared with our students some wisdom she has gained along her journey.

"Never quit, that's number one, and don't take no for an answer (unless it is your parents telling you 'no' for something), and never give up on your dreams. You have to be willing to work if you want to own your own business."

Ms. Vickery is a busy mom and business operator, and we greatly appreciate her stopping by the GETV studio this week to share her story and some excellent life advice!

This online event, for families of 3rd through 5th graders, will include sample questions and helpful tips for parents to help their children at home.

What is GMAS?

"The Georgia Milestones Assessment System is a comprehensive summative assessment program and represents a single system of summative assessments that span all three levels of the state's educational system – elementary, middle, and high school. The system is designed to send consistent signals about students' preparedness for the next level, be it the next grade, course, or endeavor, such as entering college or beginning a career after leaving the K-12 educational system."
