The Lazy Days of Summer?
- While you relaxed on the beach or by the pool, we were busy at school! Here are just a few of our summer activities:
- Counting and sorting thousands of textbooks!
- Employees participated in dozens of workshops at the annual GCS “Summer Academy.”
- Sixteen rising first grade students attended “Footsteps to First Grade,” a four-week, invitation-only readiness program.
- The custodial services team waxed tile floors and cleaned carpet in the building totaling approximately 120,000 square feet.
- New floor tile was installed in all fourth and fifth grade classrooms.
PTA President's Report - Jean Scott
Welcome to the 2014-2015 school year! I am delighted to be serving as Oakview's PTA president this year. Our theme for 2014-2015 is "No Limits." I'm certain there will be no limits to the success we have in supporting our students, teachers and school through PTA!
Our PTA board is working diligently on our school directory, PTA 2014-2015 memberships, Spirit Wear orders, our Oct. 9 Boosterthon Fun Run, and the Nov. 7 Hootenanny fall festival. We are also establishing room coordinators for each classroom. Be on the lookout for information from them about how you can help at the classroom level. Please contact me at dianajeanscott@yahoo.com if you have any questions about PTA or how you can be involved.
PTA Memberships
Welcome to the new school year! The PTA Membership campaign has begun and we are trying to reach our 100% goal again.
The cost of PTA membership is $5.00 per child enrolled at Oakview. Please help us in reaching our goal this year by purchasing at least one membership for each child in your household enrolled at Oakview. A portion of the money goes to National and State PTA and a small portion stays at Oakview. All families who purchase one will receive a Moe’s coupon for joining PTA ! There is also a contest between the classes. The first class in each grade to get 100% will have a frozen-yogurt treat at lunch.
Thanks to all of those that have already joined.
If you have any questions please contact Membership Co-Chairs Leslie Ferrell and Tammy Terry.
OES Spirit Wear
Spirit Wear orders placed in August will be fulfilled in mid-September. If you haven't received your spirit wear yet, please be patient. We will send it home as soon as we can. There will be a final order for sweatshirts, magnets and water bottles due at the end of September, which will be fulfilled before the end of October.
If you have any questions, please contact Emily Draper at draperes@yahoo.com.
Reflections
Make the World a Better Place…Enter the Reflections Contest!
Students can gain recognition while expressing themselves creatively through the National PTA Reflections contest, America’s oldest and largest arts-education program of its kind. The program was developed in 1969 by Colorado's PTA President, Mary Lou Anderson, to encourage students to explore their talents and express themselves. Since then, the Reflections Program has inspired millions of students to reflect on a specific theme and create original artwork.
Each year, students in grades Pre-K through 12 are recognized for bringing the theme to life through film production, dance choreography, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts. The 2014-2015 Reflections program theme is “The world would be a better place if...”
First, second, and third prizes as well as honorable mention will be recognized at a special awards ceremony in the spring. Oakview first-place winners will be entered in the district-wide competition.
Deadline for entering Reflections will be mid-October. For parents who have any questions about the contest and the simple forms to be filled out, you are invited to come to an informational meeting on Tuesday, September 16 at 8:30 a.m. in the cafeteria, or visit the PTA Reflections page at www.scpta.org. For specific questions, please contact Irena Terevo at irenabill@earthlink.net.
