Citizens in need (letter to the editor)
My name is Jesse and I believe that taking the guns away from us citizens will only leave us defenseless against criminals who don"t have registered weapons. How are they supposed to help us? My house was broken into last summer and the thief did not steal anything because we had the protection of our gun scared him away. I did some research and discovered that 45% of american households have guns, so we are just one of many families that relay on guns

I'm John Franke, the father of Phillip Franke who was shot and killed last week. He was shot by a 19 year old who had possession of a handgun. I think that you should have to be 25 years old to own a gun. It is ridiculous that a immature 19 year old is allowed to have a gun at that age. A gun is something that takes great responsibility to own. About 7,000 kids in the Frisco Independence School District go to high school everyday and aren't checked to see if they have possession of a gun. Giving a kid as young as 18 in Texas a gun is just asking for trouble. I also don't understand why the age requirement to own a gun varies by state. The government needs to take control of this gun control situation right away.

John Franke

Dear editor,
My name is Mr. Smith I am a teacher in California and I do believe we need gun control laws to protect our students and ourselves. I do believe it is necessary to protect ourselves but we do not need a 30 round clip on an assault rifle to do so. Putting these gun laws in effect will take those kinds of unnecessary weapons away and eliminate the threat of a huge shooting. If people don’t have anything to hide they shouldn't be worried about background checks. In my area of teaching it is not the best place to raise a family but we do have strict rules and procedures to protect ourselves such as metal detectors at the front door and school officers on campus. This helps eliminate threats of a school shooting and other schools should do the same.
