Choose to Be Nice
Homework at Glenwood- Students are expected to read nightly and practice their facts.
In an effort to allow children to be children and give them time to explore their interests and spend time with their families, we will continue with our unstructured homework. It is expected that students read (20 -40 minutes a night depending on their grade levels) and practice math facts nightly. However, there won’t be a reading log or anything to check off for math facts - it’s just expected that both will be done. Students will be held accountable for knowing their math facts as well as reading for enjoyment each night. The only time homework will be formally assigned is when students need to study for a test/quiz or complete a project. Here is a list of things you can do with your child at home in the absence of formal homework. I know it is tempting for children to use a device or watch TV in the absence of formalized homework, but the following list will provide a more fun and enriching experience for your child.

Steam into Winter is here. Remember it fills up within one day, so please sign up ASAP.
OUR MAKERSPACE AND SCIENCE LAB WERE CLOSED FOR 18 MONTHS. WE ARE SO EXCITED TO OPEN THEM UP THIS YEAR.
Please do not drop off Makerspace materials if we are not in the building. We will have to throw away the materials if we are unsure of where they came from. Thank you for understanding.
A true makerspace is defined not by what's in it, but rather by what comes out of it: projects, experiences, artifacts, and learning. At Glenwood we are looking to have a makerspace that opens opportunities for children to design, create and explore. We are looking for donations of materials we can use in our makerspace. We are in desperate need of materials for our makerspace. Some things that we can not get enough of are:
small pieces of wood and nails for building
Cereal and cardboard boxes
masking and duct tape,
toilet paper and paper towel rolls,
craft supplies,
cereal boxes,
cardboard,
fabric, yarn,
streamers
plastic containers,
or anything that may end up in the recycling bin
We appreciate these and other materials that are in a clean and usable condition.
We need wood, nails and any other materials on the list.

A Note from the Rutland Vaccine Team Regarding Pfizer Vaccinations for 5-11 year olds
To our Wachusett district families:
We know you’ve already carefully guided your children through their “kindergarten shots”, the required multi-dose vaccinations that began when they were babies - HiB, DTaP, Polio, Hepatitis B, MMR, and Varicella. We also know that many of you have been waiting for the COVID-19 vaccine to be fully tested and reviewed and made available to them as well.
On Tuesday October 26th, the FDA's Vaccines & Related Biological Products Advisory Committee voted 17-0 to approve emergency use of a lower dose of the Pfizer vaccine for children aged 5-11. On Friday October 29th, the full FDA authorized that use. On Tuesday November 2nd, the CDC Advisory Committee of Immunization Practices unanimously recommended proceeding, & CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky then endorsed the use.
With this positive decision, the Massachusetts State Department of Public Health ratifies the federal decision, and pediatric administration can begin. The state already directed clinics to order pediatric Pfizer in anticipation of this likely emergency authorization, and Rutland has received its first order. While the vaccine formulation is exactly the same as the adult formula, the pediatric packaging is different and the dosage is 1⁄3 (one-third) that of the adult dose.
The Rutland Vaccination Team has been forming a comprehensive plan of action on how to best serve our youngest patients. We are ready to provide your children with the same safe, smooth, calm and worry-free experience that we’ve already provided to over 60,000 adults and teens - and will tailor it to them.
At this time, we have scheduled a pediatric-only clinic for TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 16TH, with a followup 2nd dose clinic on TUESDAY, DECEMBER 7TH. This timeline will provide your 5-11 year-old with first-dose protection for Thanksgiving, and full vaccine protection by the Christmas holidays. You may have questions about dosage, about the studies conducted, about how appointments will be run, and about general expectations and observations. We will be happy to assist you in the coming weeks, including answering any questions you may have, to the best of our ability.
Keeping your family safe and healthy is our highest priority. We look forward to serving you.
Sincerely,
The Rutland Vaccine Team
