For The Informed Slater Parent
Robotics Competition Features Winning Slater Scholars and Teachers
While we do not know the official results of the competition, the judges were openly impressed the hard work that our scholars put forth. It goes without saying that the Slater scholars' success was largely impacted by teachers Mrs. Bethany Thomas, and Mrs. Markii Jacobs. Slater was well represented in this weekend's competition!
We are so proud of our innovative teachers and our amazing future leaders.
Loew's Partnership Features Slater Artists!!
The picture above shows the 2nd graders that were selected to participate in this years Holiday card competition. Our very own art teacher, Mr. Cox selected the top artists in second grade. The students that participated in this competition toured the luxury hotel, met the Loew's chef and cook staff, and were treated to homemade cookies and chocolate milk as they created their holiday masterpieces.
Of course our scholars made amazing artwork making us so proud , but what they could not know was that the top two cards that were judged and selected would win either a dinner for the entire family at the Saltwood Restaurant in the Loew's hotel, or an overnight stay for the artist and their family. While we will announce the winners this week, we already know that each of our scholars entered the competition as winners.
Slater Staff Prepares for 1 More Week!
Our Dean of Students, Mr. Moultrie, and Dean of Academics, Mrs. Amos shared the events that will take place this week and the things that need to happen for each of us to be prepared. Many teachers will probably spend this weekend making sure that they have everything they need to insure that everything is just right for our scholars and parents!
Mission Monday
MISSION #15
Staff/Students - Spread some holiday cheer and enjoy a well deserved winter break. Let's show everyone some Slater love!!!
Slater Is....
A Uniform School
Uniforms
To ensure that our learning environment is equitable and focused on instruction, we are a uniform school. All students are required to be in uniform Monday - Friday. Our uniforms consist of khaki or navy blue bottoms (shorts, pants, skirts) and white, orange, or blue polo shirts. All students should be in uniform Monday-Friday. If you are facing a challenge in purchasing uniforms for your child(ren), feel free to reach out to our parent liaison, Ms. Woods, for assistance @(404)802-4050.
Ready for School Each Day on TIme
Research indicates that missing more than five days of school each year, regardless of the cause, begins to impact student academic performance and starts shaping attitudes about school.
At Slater Elementary, we recognize the relationship between daily school attendance, school climate, student performance, and social-emotional health. We also know that the amount of time actually spent in class is a good measure of student access to an education. Each tardy or absence means a student has lost an opportunity to learn.
At T.H. Slater Elementary, we strive to proactively monitor school wide attendance and the individual attendance of each student. The following policy will be upheld for students who are tardy or repeatedly picked up late.
Half Day Friday's
As a reminder, every Friday our school day ends at 1:00 p.m. in order for our teachers to receive training and workshops to ensure your child(ren) have a top-notch educational experience here at Slater. All students must be picked up no later than 1:00 p.m. each Friday!!
