Hershey met his wife in a candy store where he was trying to sell his caramels and chocolate products.
Derry Church, Pennsylvania
Hershey built his chocolate factory in what was once the middle of a cornfield. There was plenty of pastureland for the cows that would provide the milk for the chocolate. The railroad ran right through Derry Church so Hershey could import cocoa beans and sugar and export chocolate.
Milk
Milk was the secret ingredient Hershey discovered to make his caramels. Milk made them extra chewy and kept them fresh much longer. Milk was also important to Hershey when he opened his giant new factory in Derry Church, Pennsylvania. Beyond the factory would be plenty of pastureland for the cows that would provide the milk for the chocolate.
