Spotlight of the Month - Ms. Dukes 3rd Grade
Greetings,
My class is working on fractions in math and heat in science. These pictures show my students working on their fraction pizza activity and a science experiment showing how heat can affect colors and other materials.
Parents can assist at home by having students draw shapes, partition them into equal parts and write fractions on a number line. For science, parents can have children find sources of heat and explain how heat is being produced.

Check out our fractions.

What's Happening in 1st Grade?
Check out 1st Grade's "AT HOME" tips!
In 1st Grade this month:
- ELA We are comparing the adventures and experiences of a character to help readers understand similarities and differences in stories. In writing, we are producing complete and compound sentences. Students should read their sight words daily.
- Helping at home:
-Parents can help by reminding their children to answer questions in a complete sentence, not with just one or two words
-Parents can also help by having their children read their sight words every night. Ask them to use/write their sight words in complete sentence
- Math We are adding and subtracting two-digit numbers, reviewing place value, and introducing counting with coins- dimes and pennies.
- Helping at home:
- -Parents can help at home by discussing homework with students, so they can practice explaining their strategies and answers. Also allow them to practice counting with coins.
