A MESSAGE FROM MRS. MOLITOR
Hello Glendale Families!
The story for this month is: I Choose to Speak Up by Elizabeth Estrada
What happens when our children witness bullying, harassment, or discrimination? Or what do they do when it happens to them? In this rhyming story, children will learn what it means to speak up for themselves and for others.
I hope you enjoy it, and always remember to :
Be Safe
Be Responsible
Be Respectful
Jennifer Molitor
Glendale Elementary School Principal
C.A.R.E.S
Students at Glendale will be recognized for showing the CARES skills through out the school year. Adults can recognize students who are doing an excellent job demonstrating: Cooperation, Assertion, Responsibility, Empathy or Self control. Students who are recognized will be honored with a certificate, have their names announced at an All School Meeting, will be showcased in the Glendale monthly newsletter and will get to enjoy a cinnamon roll breakfast with Mrs. Molitor & the other recipients during morning meeting.
Congratulations to all of the students that received this award for January! The next breakfast honoring our February winners will be Friday, March 4th.
TECH SUPPORT FOR FAMILIES/STUDENTS
We ask that families continue to use the IT Help Desk Form (as they did last year) when needing additional tech support at home with their 1:1 devices.
SCHOOL MASK SUPPLY
As the universal face covering policy remains in effect due to high transmission of COVID in our local county and district, we’d like to share a friendly reminder with families to send their children to school with a face covering. Additionally, it’s helpful to send a few extra face coverings in your child’s backpack in a plastic bag in the event they need a new one during the school day. While we do have a small supply of face coverings in the event a student or adult forgets to wear one to school, we do not have the ability to provide face coverings for the masses.
Thank you for your partnership!
I LOVE TO READ MONTH IS HERE!!
Theme: "All In For Reading"
January 31st-February 28th
Events for the Month:
Reading BINGO boards will be an activity on Seesaw and also emailed home as a PDF if parents want to print. (Due to toner shortage we can’t print them here). They should be turned in to Ms. Quinn by March 2nd or submitted on Seesaw by then. All students who complete 20 out of 25 of the BINGO activities and turn their board in to Ms. Quinn will receive a free book!
Weekly Trivia-Beginning Jan 31st, each Monday classroom teachers will be emailed the weekly trivia question to show their students. Students can submit their answers in the box that will be located in the library by Thursday afternoon of that week. Be sure to include their full name and teacher’s name on their answer slip. Ms. Quinn will draw one winner each Friday and they will receive a $10 Barnes & Noble gift card.
FUN FRIDAYS:

MIDDLE SCHOOL PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT
There will be a Middle School Information Night for parents of current 5th grade students on Tuesday, February 15th at 6:30 p.m. at the Twin Oaks’ Auditorium, 15860 Fish Point Rd. SE, Prior Lake.
Prior to the Middle School Information Night meeting, there will be a brief session for incoming Spanish Immersion families starting at 6 p.m. in the Twin Oaks cafeteria.
All future middle school parents are welcome and encouraged to attend. You will have a chance to learn about middle school structure, student scheduling, ways your child will be supported and given the opportunity to ask questions. If you are not able to attend there will be a link to the recording of the event on the Middle School websites.
In May, when building placement for your child has been determined, the fifth graders will tour their middle school for next year, followed by a parent orientation night at your child’s 6th grade middle school building.

5-Black History Month: freedom quilts
Hello Glendale Families! We spent the last month working in stations, concentrating on jump rope skills and using the Rockwall . We also were able to have a few google meetings this month and we spent time using our new scooters, playing Scooter Gauntlet. It was a very busy month!! Remember to bring tennis shoes.
MEDIA:
In Media this month all grades have been continuing their work in Kodable, which is a coding app. Grades 3-5 have been able to explore any of the activities that looked interesting to them and have made great progress! Grades K-2 have been more directed in their lessons and are really enjoying it! K-2 have also been enjoying the Star of the North nominated picture books I’ve been reading to them. We only have a couple more left to read before they will get to vote on their favorite! Ask your 3rd-5th grader about their read aloud: I’m reading Third Grade Angels to 3rd grade, Fourth Grade Rats to 4th grade and Pax to 5th grade.
MUSIC:
We've been doing a lot of singing in the music classroom! Many of our music students have been doing a lot of yodeling lately! Kindergarten finished up their units on loud/soft and fast/slow. 1st and 2nd are continuing work on note values and learning the names of the different kinds of notes. 3rd grade is working on learning the Solfege system to learn how to read music, and this will also guide them into writing their own music on the staff. 4th grade just finished up their note name unit with a final test, and all of 4th grade did AMAZING! 5th grade has started ukuleles, and they are enjoying playing their first few chords!
SUBSTITUTES NEEDED DISTRICT WIDE!
COLD WEATHER APPEARAL & GUIDELINES
Dressing your child with warm clothes, hats, gloves, snow pants and boots helps students have a fun time in cold, snowy weather. **Students will always go outdoors for recess unless the "feels like" temperature falls below -5 degrees or it is steadily raining. Please help to make sure your child is prepared for outdoor recess each day!
**IMPORTANT: BE SURE TO LABEL YOUR CHILD’S JACKET, MITTENS, HAT, SNOW PANTS, AND BOOTS TO HELP PREVENT THEM FROM GETTING LOST!!
PTC CORNER
Glendale Families -
THANK YOU for your support through the Eileen's Cookie Dough fundraiser! You far exceeded our expectations and we are excited to know so many in our community will be eating their yummy cookies soon!!
We have the following fundraisers on the calendar and additional restaurant nights will be announced throughout the spring:
Nautical Bowls: all day Friday, Feb 11th
McHugh's: 4-8pm Monday, March 7th
Classroom Enrichment was a large focus of our goal for the fall Glendale Games fundraiser and we are happy to announce that we have made great steps in this area the past couple of months! In December we provided classrooms with additional headphones and computer mice for students to use during testing as well as everyday classroom activities. In January we provided classrooms with Rainy/Cold Day items that they could use when students had indoor recess due to these outdoor elements, and we know that many of these were already put to great use last week -- from Battleship games to Origami How To books to Legos to decks of cards … the teachers were able to select items best for their students!
Reminder, if you are interested, to please get your orders in for your child's yearbook.
**Orders will close on 4/1. **
Due to COVID we will unfortunately not be able to do the full carnival again this year; however we are planning a Family Fun event for this spring and more details will be coming out in the next few weeks.
You can follow the Glendale PTC Facebook page to see up to date announcements on items purchased, fundraisers, upcoming events, etc. Thanks!
